New Jersey Seeking First Win vs. Boston This Season
History on Line for Bruins
The Boston Bruins can match the NHL single-season record for wins in a season with a victory against New Jersey on Saturday night. The 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning each won 62 games.
There is plenty on the line for the Devils as well. New Jersey is only a point behind the Metropolitan Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes.

Since losing 6-1 at Winnipeg, New Jersey has outscored Pittsburgh and Columbus 13-1 to close the gap on Carolina. Boston has the best points percentage since March 1 among Eastern Conference teams despite sitting some of its best players from time to time to try to be as healthy as possible for the start of the playoffs.
Boston has the best home record in the NHL with just four regulation losses. However, New Jersey is second (to the Bruins) with 27 road wins, so keep that in mind when making NHL picks.
When looking at some of the NHL news, former Bruins forward Curtis Lazar is out indefinitely and goalie Jonathan Bernier is on injured reserve for New Jersey.
For Boston, defenseman Charlie McAvoy left Thursday’s overtime win against Toronto with an upper-body injury. It is uncertain if he will be in the lineup. Center David Krejci could also be held out of the lineup once again. Winger Taylor Hall is starting to skate with the team, but no announcement has been made regarding his return to game action.
#NHLBruins updates per Coach Montgomery:
▪️ David Krejci and Charlie McAvoy are “day-to-day”
▪️ Krejci is “doubtful” to play in the back-to-back this weekend
▪️ McAvoy “to be determined” depending on how “he responds to treatment today”
▪️ Taylor Hall is “getting closer” pic.twitter.com/Xfr8kSLVIs— p – Boston Bruins (@NHLBruins) April 7, 2023
According to the NHL odds, the Bruins (+350) continue to have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup title. The Devils (+1200) are tied for sixth in the championship odds.
Jack Of All Trades
New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes has a chance to join some select company.
The list of American-born players with 100-point seasons, while they are 21 or younger, is limited to Jimmy Carson, who accomplished the feat twice, and Jeremy Roenick.
After recording two goals and two assists in a dominating win over Columbus, Hughes is sitting at 95 points with three games left to play.

Hughes has 30 multi-point games this season with New Jersey going 24-5-1 in those games, so perhaps he can inch closer to that milestone.
In 13 career games against the Bruins, Hughes has two goals and nine assists.
The NHL betting lines total has gone over in four of New Jersey’s last five games against Atlantic Division teams, as well as in four of the last five road games
Sealing the Deal
The Boston Bruins know how to keep fans in their seats, that is for sure.
Each of Boston’s last seven games has been decided by one goal, with four of those going into overtime. The Bruins are 6-1 in those games.
Some of those finishes have to do with the way head coach Jim Montgomery is resting veteran players to prepare for what the Bruins hope is a long playoff run.
David Pastrnak, who is three goals shy of becoming the second Boston Bruin with 60 goals in a season, Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle are the only Boston players to appear in all 78 games this season.
Boston is 23-6-6 in one-goal games this season and that includes an 11-3-3 record in home games.
The Las Vegas odds total has gone under in four of Boston’s last six games.

Devils vs Bruins Picks and Prediction
There will be a national television audience as two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference go head-to-head for the final time in the regular season. The only way they would need it in the playoffs would be if they both reach the Eastern Conference finals.
Since the start of March, Boston is first and New Jersey third in points among Eastern Conference teams. The Bruins and Devils rank second and third in the NHL on the penalty kill during that time.
Expect this to be another tight-checking game that could come down to the bitter end.
The Devils are 23-16 against the spread on the road. Boston has covered 20 of its 39 games on home ice.
The Bruins are 53-12-5 when listed by the sportsbook as the favorite. New Jersey is 14-7-2 as the underdog.
The Boston Bruins are listed at -140 in our Las Vegas NHL odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Bruins, you have a chance to win $71. New Jersey is +120, offering a chance to win $120 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Boston Bruins a 58.33% chance to win, with the New Jersey Devils at 45.45%.
