Devils Delivering on the Road

New Jersey is tough to beat on the road, and in fact, their three losses have only come against division rivals – two of them are Carolina and Pittsburgh. The Devils are 6-0 when visiting the Atlantic Division. They smoked the Red Wings 6-2 back in October and most recently upset the resurgent Penguins.

It’s a collective effort for the Devils, who generally outplay the hosts. New Jersey is second in Corsi for Percentage (CF%) on 5-on-5 (55.4 percent) and first in high-danger scoring chances for percentage (57.7 percent).

If the Devils have a weakness, it will be on special teams. The Devils’ 17.4 percent is just 26th in the NHL. They have scored just eight PP goals versus nine from the opponent. The goaltenders, namely Vitek Vanecek, also see a dip in their netminding stats. But overall, the Devils remain a hot bet online as a visitor.

Red Wings Remain Second-Rate

Detroit continues to “progress,” but the facts remain the same: this is a mediocre team at best and playing at home hardly changes it. The Red Wings are just 9-6-3 at home with a +1 goal differential. Everything about their stats is average, including their 5-on-5 metrics: Corsi and scoring chances.

A few of Detroit’s top players are underperforming, namely defenseman Moritz Seider and winger Lucas Raymond. Both have significant cases of “sophomore slumps.” Seider has just 12 points and is a team-worst -13, while Raymond is on pace for 51 points, a slight decline from last season’s.

It doesn’t help that Detroit’s goaltenders remain average at best. The trio has a combined goal saved above average of -6.5, mainly due to Alex Nedeljkovic. Ville Husso has acquitted himself well but is still just 12-6-5 as the starter. Magnus Hellberg will look to be the answer; he holds the fort for Husso.

Devils vs Red Wings Betting Lines

Devils vs Red Wings Picks & Prediction

These online sports betting lines are straightforward: New Jersey is the best road team in the NHL and Detroit is a subpar home team. We don’t see much reason to doubt New Jersey with how they’re playing. Mackenzie Blackwood, New Jersey’s backup goaltender, even plays better as a visitor (3-1-0, 90.4 save percentage).

Detroit is listed at +130 in our NHL lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Red Wings, you have a chance to win $130. New Jersey is -150, offering a chance to win $67 on a $100 wager.
