Anaheim, Vancouver Seek to Avoid Division Cellar

Canucks Aim for Third Straight Win

The Vancouver Canucks own victories over two of the top teams in the NHL the past few weeks and will face one of the league’s worst Wednesday when the Anaheim Ducks pay a visit.

The Canucks, who are 18 points out of a playoff spot, knocked off the Central Division-leading Dallas Stars 5-4 in overtime on Feb. 27 and frustrated the talented Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Saturday. Vancouver followed that up Monday with a 4-3 shootout win over the Nashville Predators.

While Vancouver is 5-2-1 in its last eight games and 8-7-2 since Rick Tocchet took over as coach, Anaheim was 4-0-1 in a five-game stretch before dropping a 5-2 decision at Seattle on Tuesday. The Ducks are tied with San Jose for last in the Pacific, seven points behind the Canucks

Anaheim owns victories at Carolina, which boasts the second-most points in the league, and at Eastern Conference wild-card contender Washington in the past two weeks.

Let’s check the latest NHL news, stats, injury reports, and NHL lines for Ducks vs Canucks. We’ve got plenty of NHL picks for you.

Ducks Show Some Life

The numbers tell the story for Anaheim this season. The Ducks are ranked 30th or worse in the league in goals against, goals scored, power play and penalty-killing.

However, the Ducks have been better of late while allowing 11 goals during their points streak. Much of that is due to the play of goalie John Gibson, who earned at least a point in five straight before stopping 26 of 30 shots Tuesday.

Trevor Zegras scored a highlight-reel goal Tuesday and leads the team with 54 points – six in his last five contests. Jakob Silfverberg has also picked it up with four goals in a six-game stretch for Anaheim.

According to NHL lines, the under was 4-0-1 in five Ducks games before going over Tuesday.

Pettersson Leads Canucks

All-Star center Elias Pettersson continues to put up points for a Vancouver offense that is ranked 11th in the league (3.32 goals per game).

Pettersson reached the 30-goal plateau for the second straight season Monday and boasts a career-high 79 points for the Canucks, who are 10-5-0 against Pacific Division foes.

According to Las Vegas odds, the under is 4-2-0 in the last six Vancouver games. But the over is 36-20-7 in Canucks contests this season.

Vancouver’s defensive corps is ravaged by injuries, but the under has been better of late with No. 1 goalie Thatcher Demko back from a long stretch on injured reserve. Demko is 2-1-0 since his return with a .937 save percentage. Arturs Silovs made 29 saves for the win Monday and was sent to the minors Tuesday.

The Canucks have won just once in their last 10 games after a victory, but 4-1-0 in the last five contests on one day’s rest.

Ducks vs Canucks Head-to-Head

Vancouver produced a season-high scoring total in its 8-5 triumph at home against the Ducks on Nov. 3 as Pettersson registered a goal and four assists.

Andrei Kuzmenko also added three of his 29 goals to go along with an assist in that victory for the Canucks, snapping a four-game losing streak against Anaheim at home.

The Ducks were 6-0-1 in the previous seven games versus Vancouver and will host the Canucks two more times this season.

If you are betting online, the over is 3-1-0 in the last four meetings and 4-1 in the past five meetings in Vancouver.

Ducks vs Canucks Picks and Prediction

Demko should be ready to go with some rest after a big effort against Toronto on March 4.

The question is whether Anaheim puts Gibson back between the pipes or goes with rookie Lukas Dostal. Without a playoff spot to play for, you would expect coach Dallas Eakins to go with Dostal, who is 3-5-1 with a .897 save percentage but has shown flashes of brilliance.

But if you are online gambling, the Ducks are just 1-7-0 in the second of back-to-backs this season. Anaheim’s defense is depleted by trades and injuries, so even if Gibson plays it will have a tough task.

The Ducks are listed at +195 in our NHL odds. This means that if you wager $100 on Anaheim, you have a chance to win $195. The Canucks are -235, offering a chance to win $43 on a $100 wager. The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Ducks a 33.90% chance to win, with Vancouver at 70.15%.
