Flames at Canucks, Feb 15

The Flames and Canucks have exchanged 3-1 victories in the first two games of this four-game set. Calgary goalie Jacob Markstrom has started against his former squad four times this season, and has only lost the most recent online betting battle on Feb 13. Markstrom joined the Flames as a free agent after being unable to reach an agreement to be the Canucks’ starter.

In Markstrom’s first game against his old teammates, he turned aside all 32 shots he faced, earning a sweet shoutout. Calgary has more points than Vancouver, despite playing four fewer games. The Canucks have lost six of their last seven contests.

Canucks Pepper Markstrom

In their most recent head-to-head matchup, the Canucks more than doubled the Flames in shot attempts, outshooting them 46-19. Markstrom held Vancouver at bay and kept the game tied 1-1 until the pivotal third period. The puck peppering proffered by Vancouver broke through Markstrom’s wall for the second time in the final frame. The Canucks added an empty-netter, snapping their six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win.

Flames C Sam Bennett scored the lone Calgary goal against G Thatcher Demko in this game. The Flames need to generate more scoring attempts, while the defense would benefit from clamping down and supporting Markstrom more. Expect the jilted Martkstrom to be in the zone here, wanting nothing more than another shutout vs his old mates.

Betting Forecast

The Flames have taken three out of four from the Canucks so far, and Markstrom is well-motivated to excel. It’s doubtful that Calgary will be outshot and outplayed on both sides of the ice again like they just were. Expect the Flames to reignite their winning ways with a victory at Rogers Arena, covering ATS for a nice payout.

In the four previous matchups this year between Calgary and Vancouver, the total has never surpassed four goals. Look for that trend to continue on Feb 15 when Marskstrom frustrates his ex-teammates once again. Remember, this is the second-best thing to a home game for Markstrom. Flames 4, Canucks 0
