Will Fleury Absolve Chicago’s Woes Against Vegas?

In what should be a lopsided affair, the Vegas Golden Knights could flatten their old goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury’s, Chicago Blackhawks. Using the latest news, stats, and injury reports, Vegas has more key players missing but that won’t deter it from extending Chicago’s slump. The NHL odds put Vegas over as a favorite but can Fleury bust some chalk?

Recapturing Magic in Vegas

For their first four seasons, the Vegas Golden Knights were one of the best home teams in the NHL. Vegas had a point percentage of 69.7% at home, which is behind only Tampa Bay, Boston, and Pittsburgh.

This hasn’t been the case this season as Vegas’s 59.5% point percent at home puts them at 18th. It’s a perfect storm of injuries, inconsistent netminding, and bad luck. Vegas has lost three of its last five home games but has faced steep competition: Tampa Bay and Nashville, among them.

Robin Lehner has been so-so in net posting a 90.4% save percentage. The power play is also sputtering, firing at just 13.6%. And yet Vegas is outshooting its opponents by over eight shots, which is the second-highest differential. With all these woes, Vegas is still a winning team at home and is worth betting online.

Fleury to Lead Blackhawks in Revenge Game

The Blackhawks are tanking fast having lost six straight with their last one coming against the Coyotes. Chicago is 7-22 as an underdog and has only won once in its last nine games as one.

Adding the other negative press, there hasn’t been much to be proud of in Chicago outside of a “close” loss against Colorado. This is where goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury can, for one game, make everyone forget about all this hoopla.

The reigning Vezina Trophy winner was unceremoniously shipped out of Vegas. His situation in Chicago is worse, but stonewalling his ex-teammates and leading a Blackhawks upset would be quite something.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction

Will Fleury gain some revenge here? A little bit. Fleury may be the only one that can keep Chicago in this game. The Blackhawks won’t be providing much run support for Fleury. The team is producing a measly 26.8 shots per game and 2.3 goals. They are -25 on the road, which is a goal differential that’s better than only Arizona and Montreal.

Vegas has had some issues closing out scoring chances at home, however. The team is only 6-15 on the puck line at home. It can dominate Chicago for most of the game but still just finish with a one-goal win, making the Blackhawks’ puck line the pick for the sportsbook.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks +1½ (-130)

There will be plenty of shots and scoring chances here, but a 2-1 or 3-2 final score is a likely result. As such, there is plenty of value on the under 5.5 goals even if the trend, nine of Vegas’s last 13 conference games have gone over, says otherwise.

Pick: Under 5½ (Ev)

Parlay: Blackhawks +1½ and Under 5½ at +254
