Go With Rangers on Road vs Ottawa

All you need to know about how things are going for the two teams is that the New York Rangers have more road wins this season than the Ottawa Senators have wins. The NHL betting lines are favoring the visiting Rangers.

The Rangers are the only team this season with at least 10 road wins and that has pushed New York to the best record in the NHL. Some of Ottawa’s win and point totals are deceiving since the Senators have played just 19 games, the fewest in the NHL.

After the Rangers had won four games in a row against Ottawa, the Senators took the final two matchups between the teams last season. Three of the last six games between the teams have been decided by one goal. Chris Kreider led the Rangers with two goals against Ottawa last season while Brady Tkachuk recorded two goals and three assists in the three games against the Rangers.

Forward Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko are out for the Rangers.

For Ottawa, forward Ridly Greig is expected to play. Forward Mark Kastelic is out while center Shane Pinto is suspended.

A quick look at today’s NHL games shows that this is one of the matchups with a total of 6 ½ goals.

When looking at the NHL futures odds, the New York Rangers (+1000) are tied for fourth in the odds of winning the Stanley Cup title. Ottawa (+8000) is tied for 22nd in the championship odds.

Will the Rangers’ Power Play Take Over?

The Rangers have won the top power plays in the NHL. However, the recent numbers on the road have not been that impressive.

In the last six road games, the Rangers are 3-for-15 with the man advantage and have also allowed three short-handed goals during that time.

If there is a silver lining, it is that Ottawa ranks 27th in penalty killing this season.

Kreider’s seven power-play goals are one off the NHL lead. The next goal for Kreider will tie him with Adam Graves for the third-most in Rangers’ history.

The NHL odds total has gone under in each of the last six times that the Rangers played in Ottawa.

Stutzle Looks to Get Going

All eyes will be on Ottawa’s top scorer Tim Stutzle. The Senators are 1-5 when Stutzle fails to record a point. The Senators have scored just nine goals in those six games compared to having 54 goals in the 13 games when Stutzle has at least one point.

Stutzle has no goals and one assist in his last three games. He could be somebody worth monitoring when it comes to the NHL’s best bet for this matchup.

Getting Greig back could be huge for the Senators. He had two goals and five assists in nine games before landing on injured reserve. More importantly, he had a plus/minus rating of +7.

The NHL betting line total has gone under in four of Ottawa’s last five games.

Turning Defense into Offense

In the two games since being activated off injured reserve, New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has four assists as the Rangers have scored 10 goals to post a pair of one-goal wins.

For the Senators, Jake Sanderson has no goals and no assists since having a goal and an assist in a win over Detroit on Nov. 16. He has been held off of the scoresheet in five straight games and could be due to change that, so keep an eye on the player props for both Fox and Sanderson.

However, there could be a decent payout if the first period is the highest of the three periods.

There were five goals scored in the first period in the last game for the Rangers while one of Ottawa’s two goals in a recent win over Seattle came in the first period.

Rangers vs Senators Game Prediction

Predicted Score: Rangers 4, Senators 2

Go with Rangers to Add to Road Win Total

Four of the last five games played by Ottawa had six goals or less scored while the Rangers are coming off a pair of high-scoring affairs, so this is going to be a tough game to figure when it comes to the total.

It might make more sense to roll with the Rangers to take care of business and add to the NHL-leading mark for road victories.

NHL Pick: New York Rangers -135

Could There Be Some Early Fireworks?

The first period is the lowest-scoring period for these teams, with the Rangers and Senators combining to score 46 goals while surrendering 34 goals.

However, there could be a decent payout if the first period is the highest of the three periods.

There were five goals scored in the first period in the last game for the Rangers while one of Ottawa’s two goals in a recent win over Seattle came in the first period.

NHL Pick: The first period to be the highest scoring period +320
