The Winnipeg Jets and Carolina Hurricanes look to rebound from recent losses. The NHL betting lines favor the Hurricanes, who have lost their last two games in overtime. The Jets got shut out by the Penguins on Saturday, and look to avoid consecutive home losses for the first time this season. These squads have split their last 10 meetings with five wins apiece.
Hurricanes Frustrated By Recent Results
Without looking at the records, the Hurricanes have a legitimate argument as the best team in the NHL. Rod Brind’Amour’s team is dominating, especially on 5-on-5 where Carolina is in the top three in most major metrics from Corsi for percentage to scoring chances ratio. In short, this team is consistently outplaying its opponents.
However, there are five teams ahead of Carolina in the standings (based on point percentage), including the Jets. The Hurricanes have a few issues like their lackluster power play, which is at 14.7 percent and 30th in the NHL, and capitalizing on can’t-miss scoring chances.
At 14 percent, the Hurricanes have the fourth-worst high-danger scoring chance shooting percentage on 5-on-5. Maybe it’s a bit of “bad luck” as hot goaltenders such as Colorado’s Pavel Francouz have frozen them. But as with the previous seasons, Carolina remains a top choice to bet on online.
To Hell and Buyck
Speaking of hot goaltenders, few can get any hotter than Connor Hellebuyck (his errant play against Pittsburgh notwithstanding). The former Vezina Trophy winner is a top contender this season again. In 13 starts, Hellebuyck has won eight while leading the league in shutouts (two), goals saved above average (12.5), and goalie point shares (GPS) (3.6).

Thanks to Hellebuyck, Winnipeg has managed to win most of its games despite being just an average team on 5-on-5 metrics. The Jets typically are outplayed and concede more scoring chances. But as far as two-way play, Winnipeg is much improved under new coach Rick Bowness.
Hellebuyck is not standing on his head as often as in the previous seasons. In fact, Winnipeg is ranked third in goals against per game (2.38) and the penalty-kill (85 percent). If the Jets can improve its offense (23rd in goals per game) to where it was before, Winnipeg has a solid shot at capturing the division.

Hurricanes vs Jets Picks & Prediction
This game will likely play out this way: Carolina outplays Winnipeg by controlling the puck longer while outshooting the team. However, Hellebucyk will redeem himself from Saturday’s loss by outperforming his counterpart. The Jets will upset the ‘Canes and at an underdog price on the online sportsbook, it’s worth a shot.
