Solid Goalie Matchup Could Be on Tap

The New York Islanders will be facing a vastly different Boston Bruins team Tuesday than the one they took two of three games from last season and the one they eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2021.

Those Bruins teams were average in a lot of ways, including goals per game and on the power play, but this Bruins team, which got off to the best home start in NHL history, paces the league in wins, goals per game (3.89), goals against per game (2.11) and penalty kill (85.4%) and is near the top on the power play and shots against.

The Islanders get the Bruins at the wrong time, having lost four of their last six games with All-World goalie Ilya Sorokin looking almost human in the process.

Sorokin, the co-leader in the Vezina Trophy odds (+350), ahead of the Bruins’ Linus Ullmark (+450), has lost his last three starts while permitting 10 goals on 76 shots.

The Russian had given up just 22 goals in 10 starts in November.

Boston is +600 to win the Stanley Cup, while the Islanders sit at +4000.

Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports, and NHL lines for Islanders vs Bruins. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.

DeBrusk Savors Goal in Win

Jake DeBrusk notched the game-winning goal for the Bruins in Sunday’s win over the Golden Knights and has points in three straight and four out of five games.

The fact the goal came against his former coach, who was often critical of DeBrusk’s play and occasionally made him a healthy scratch, was extra sweet for the winger.

“It’s one of those things that – just pure emotion,” DeBrusk, who requested a trade last season before rescinding it, told the media. “Felt really good.”

The former first-round pick has long been a streaky scorer, but he has a chance at his first 30-goal season and is producing at a career clip on the power play.

In addition to scoring the winning goal, DeBrusk brought a physical element to the game, getting six hits after having 33 and 25 in prior games this season. Nelson Surging After 30

Brock Nelson is showing no signs of slowing down in his 10th season with the Islanders after enjoying a career year last season in terms of goals and points.

The 31-year-old center was a solid player in his first eight years in the league, scoring 20 or more goals five times, but he has blossomed under head coach Barry Trotz.

Nelson had 37 goals and 22 assists last season, including 11 goals on the power play, and has an outside chance at being a 40-40 player this year for the Islanders.

“He literally has every tool,” teammate and fellow center Mathew Barzal told the media of Nelson. “I think his skating goes unnoticed. You watch him and he gets to places so quickly. And he’s got a wicked shot. He can score in so many different ways.

Nelson has scored just three goals in 32 career games against the Bruins.
