Kings Struggling Ahead of Road Trip
The Los Angeles Kings are taking on the Ottawa Senators for the first of six straight road games. This could be a rough road ahead as the Kings are already struggling.
They’ve lost seven out of their last 10 games overall and this is a team that’s just 6-5-2 on the road.
As for the Senators, they have won four out of their last five games overall but are only 6-7-0 at home.
Which squad is the best option versus the NHL betting odds in this one?
Goaltending Still Problematic for Kings
Los Angeles has been laboring at the defensive end of the ice all season long and that hasn’t improved as of late. The Kings have allowed at least three goals in each of their past four games.
One of those games was a 9-8 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken. Yes, you read that correctly: They allowed nine goals to the Kraken. It hasn’t mattered which goaltender is starting in the net as they’ve both had their fair share of trouble.
Jonathan Quick has worked his way to an 8-7-2 overall record with a 3.33 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage to go along with it. Cal Petersen is 5-3-2 with a .905 save percentage.
As a team, they’re at 3.75 goals per game and a .868 save percentage. Whichever goalie gets the nod for this matchup, they’re going to have some work to do in order to win this game. Over might be the best choice for your NHL picks.

Ottawa Finding Footing Thanks to Talbot
The Ottawa Senators didn’t start the season well as they were 6-12-1 in their first 19 games. However, they’ve been clicking since then, winning four out of their last five.
The only question is whether or not they can remain consistent during this surge or if it’s simply good matchups at the right time. One of their recent wins came against the Kings, beating them 3-2 in overtime.
The main difference for the Sens has been goaltending. They did their best to stick with Anton Forsberg early in the season because he’s just 30 years old and is probably the best long-term option on the roster.
However, he’s been a major flop, so the team turned to veteran Cam Talbot to take over. He posted a healthy .918 save percentage in November and is giving the team a chance to win.
Talbot earned six straight starts before ceding duties to Forsberg in the team’s latest contest. Expect Talbot back in the net for this one.

It looks like both of these teams are heading in different directions. The Kings are floundering with no solid goaltending option at the moment while the Senators are scoring at an improved rate while winning games.
Not to mention that Ottawa beat the Kings in overtime just over a week ago. With Talbot playing well, the Sens are the best option in the sportsbook.
