Maple Leafs Aim To Stay Hot Against Lightning
The Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to get hot. They’ve won five straight games and six out of their last seven. The most recent was a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, so they’ve had a few days off.
On Saturday, they’ll get the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have won three out of their last four and seven out of their last nine overall.
Toronto is looking for revenge against the Lightning for how their playoff run ended a season ago. Will they be able to avenge that loss or will the Lightning cash on the NHL betting odds?
Toronto Is on a Roll
This hot streak has put the league on notice. It seems like any of the rust that the Leafs had coming into the season has been knocked off now. Much of it can be attributed to their surging goaltending.
They’ve had three goaltenders get at least seven starts with none of them over a 2.70 GAA. That’s been one of their main issues when they’ve struggled.
Erik Kallgreen is 3-2-4 with a 2.67 GAA and a .898 save percentage. Statistically, he’s had the worst season out of the other goaltenders on the roster.
Ilya Samsonov has given them the best chance to win games. He’s 7-2-0 with a stellar 2.09 GAA and a .924 save percentage. If he’s in net, the Leafs are a much better option for your NHL picks.
The trio has allowed just eight goals in the team’s last five games. That’s a big reason why they’ve been cooking.

Lightning’s Offense Turning It Up a Notch
Just like the Maple Leafs, the Lightning didn’t start their season off particularly well. They were 7-6-1 in their first 14 contests but have since gone 7-2-0.
Their offense in particular has taken a big step forward of late and they now rank sixth in the league when it comes to goals scored per game this season at 3.48.
This group has four players over 20 points on the season and three more over 17. It’s hard to find a team that’s deeper than the Lightning at the moment.
But what makes them even more dangerous is their star player Nikita Kucherov, as he currently has 35 points, the fourth-highest total in the league. They’ll give the Leafs netminders a stern test and we’ll see if they’re in fact improved.

Maple Leafs vs Lightning Picks & Prediction
The Lightning are currently listed as the favorites in the sportsbook mostly because they’re at home but this is going to be tough to call. Both teams are finding their rhythm and are on a tear right now.
Tampa Bay has been the better offense this season but Toronto has been better defensively. This will be a game that comes down to the wire, but the underdogs could provide value here for your NHL picks.
For the total, consider going over the number as there are a lot of quality offensive players on the ice tonight.
