The Rangers have been off since a shootout loss to Buffalo. They have points in each of the last six games and can finish with 24 wins both at home and on the road with a victory on Thursday.

The Rangers are 13-4-4 since March 1 and have the fourth-best points percentage during that time in large part to a defense that is allowing just 2.24 goals per game. Toronto is 11-6-3 during that stretch.

The Maple Leafs are fifth and the Rangers sixth on the power play since the start of March. However, they were a combined 0 for 5 on the power play in the last meeting and that is something to keep in mind when making NHL picks.

When looking at some of the NHL news, defenseman Erik Gustafsson and center Sam Lafferty are questionable for Toronto while winger Nicholas Robertson is out.

Now that defenseman Ryan Lindgren is back, the Rangers are in good shape from an injury standpoint.

According to the NHL playoff odds, the Maple Leafs (+1000) are tied for fourth in the odds to win the Stanley Cup title. The Rangers (+1200) are tied for sixth in the championship odds.

Making Things Interesting

With the exception of a dominating win over Montreal, there have been some frantic finishes in recent games for the Maple Leafs.

Three of Toronto’s last four games have finished as one-goal affairs. The Maple Leafs lost to Boston and topped Florida in 2-1 overtime games before Tuesday’s showdown with Tampa Bay.

Playing without Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner, the Maple Leafs got three points from William Nylander and two each from Ryan O’Reilly and Calle Jarnkrok.

O’Reilly scored his first goal since a Feb. 21 win over Buffalo. He returned to the lineup earlier this month after missing more than a month and his presence will be a huge boost when the playoffs start.

Six of the last nine games played by Toronto went under the NHL betting lines total and so have four of the Maple Leafs’ last five road games.

Glad to Have Vlad

It has been business as usual for the duo of Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin as they lead the Rangers with 91 and 90 points.

A key in recent games has been the production of Vladimir Tarasenko.

The Rangers acquired Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues and Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks to add a pair of proven scorers with experience on Stanley Cup championship teams.

Tarasenko has two goals and four assists over the last five games. He has points in each of those games as he is on his longest point-scoring streak of the season.

The Las Vegas odds total has gone under in five of the last seven games played by the Rangers.

Maple Leafs vs Rangers Head-to-Head

The Rangers have won five of the last seven games against the Maple Leafs. Toronto won the most recent meeting 3-2 on an overtime goal by Mitchell Marner.

Four of the last five games between the Rangers and Maple Leafs finished under the total with four of the last seven meetings being decided by one goal. It would be five of seven if not for an empty-net goal by Jimmy Vesey in the first meeting of the season between the teams.

The home team has won four of the last six games in the series.

Maple Leafs vs Rangers Picks and Prediction

Toronto knows it will be facing Tampa Bay in the first round of the playoffs and the Rangers will open on the road against either the Carolina Hurricanes or the New Jersey Devils when the playoffs start.

Toronto is going after its 23rd road win. One concern for the Maple Leafs on the road has been the four short-handed goals allowed since the start of March.

Toronto is 6-1-3 in one-goal games since March 1 with the Rangers 5-3-3 in those contests during that stretch.

When making NHL predictions, keep in mind that Dallas is 25-15 against the spread on the road this season with St. Louis covering against the NHL betting lines in 18 of 40 home games.

The Rangers are 35-21-7 when listed as the favorite by the NHL odds with Toronto 10-5-2 as the underdog.

With how well the Rangers are playing, it is hard to pick against them and especially with the game at Madison Square Garden.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are listed at +120 in our Las Vegas hockey odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Maple Leafs, you have a chance to win $120. New York is -140, offering a chance to win $71 on a $100 wager.
