Maple Leafs vs Sharks Preview

Toronto comes into Friday night with 29 points and it has won five straight games on the road. The Maple Leafs are one of the top picks to win the Stanley Cup and there aren’t many weaknesses on this team.

San Jose has picked up 21 points but it has looked much better than that at times. The Sharks have won two straight games and that will give them a little bit of momentum for this matchup.

Goaltending Guiding Maple Leafs

The offensive ability of the Toronto Maple Leafs gets plenty of attention, but this team has actually been winning games on the other end of the ice. Toronto is allowing just 2.24 goals against per game and they have been frustrating opponents all season long.

Toronto has used three different goaltenders but Jack Campbell has been the best of that trio. Campbell is allowing just 1.68 goals per game, and he has posted an 11-4-1 mark in the blue paint.

“We’re just rolling,” said Campbell after Wednesday’s 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings. “We’re having fun. We’re working hard, and we’re just trying to get better each day. It’s just a great group to be a part of. We expect to be in this spot, and we’re just trying to keep getting better.”

Center John Tavares leads the Maple Leafs with nine goals and 18 points. Mitch Marner has a team-high 11 assists, but there are other players that can rack up some impressive stats.

Sharks Special on Special Teams

A quick look at the stats doesn’t tell the whole story for San Jose, but a closer look at the special teams is a reason why this team is tough to beat. San Jose is killing off 89% of their penalties this season, and that unit will need to play well on Friday night.

Time Heier leads the Sharks with 11 assists and 18 total points. Tomas Hertl has scored a team-high eight goals but the Sharks are averaging just 2.74 goals per game.

Goaltender James Reimer is giving up less than two goals per game, but he will be facing a difficult test. San Jose wants to slow the pace to win this game, but it’s going to take a great effort from Reimer.

Maple Leafs vs Sharks Final Pick

Toronto Too Tough

San Jose has been able to pick up two straight impressive wins, but it is facing a Toronto team that always seems to get the job done on the road. Three goals might be enough to win this game, and the Maple Leafs have the more talented team.

Campbell has been outstanding in net for Toronto and this is another great opportunity for him to lead his team to a win. There won’t be much separation in this matchup, but it will be the Maple Leafs that pick up a late score to win the game.

If you are betting online, bet the Toronto Maple Leafs -160 over the San Jose Sharks.
