Nashville Predators vs Detroit Red Wings: The weak meet

NHL Game Preview Prediction

The Nashville Predators are 7-10-0 and are currently in a funk. They’ve now lost five of seven. The good news is they were able to pick up a win in their last game against the Columbus Blue Jackets by a final score of 4-2. They take a trip to face the Detroit Red Wings who are 5-12-3 and have lost 13 out of their past 16. Which team will pick up a much-needed win here? Let’s take a closer look at the online betting odds.

NHL Odds:

Nashville Predators

The Predators have simply not been good. They average just under 10 penalty minutes per game, ranking them as the sixth-most penalized team in the league. They are going to need to reduce that number if they want to compete for a playoff spot. If not, we’re going to start talking about this team as a seller at the trade deadline as they could trade away a number of pieces if their fortunes don’t turn around shortly. Nashville has been led by Filip Forsberg this year as he has 15 points while Ryan Ellis is next with only eight. They are going to need somebody else to step up in this matchup and based on their last matchup, it looks like it could be Calle Jarnkrok. He picked up two goals against the Blue Jackets and could take some pressure off.

Goaltender Pekka Rinne has been solid but not fantastic, boasting a .908 save percentage and allowing just over two goals per game to opponents. Nashville is in a tough situation right now but could gain some confidence with a win here.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings were able to get the best of Nashville the last time these two teams met up, winning 4-2. But this game could be a completely different story for these two organizations. In their last 10 games, Detroit is averaging a paltry 1.9 goals per game and it’s hard to get much lower than that. They have gotten great production out of their center Dylan Larkin, as per usual, as he leads the team in points scored with 11. Meanwhile, Bobby Ryan leads the team in goals scored with five. Although, their scoring may take a hit in this matchup as Vladislav Namestnikov and Troy Stecher are both on their injury list (both considered day-to-day).

If their scoring takes a hit, then they will have to rely upon their defense to get the job done but that’s not exactly a strength. They could start either Jonathan Bernier or Thomas Greiss for this contest. Greiss has started 14 games while Bernier has started eight. Bernier has been the better performer of the two, posting a record of 4-2-0 with a 2.74 GAA. Greiss has been a mess, going 1-10-3 with a 3.16 GAA.

Prediction: Red Wings 3, Predators 2
