NHL Betting Odds: Bet on U.S. Stars Johnny Gauthier, Logan Cooley in Parlay 10/16

  • Colorado goes after its first win of the 2024-25 season against the visiting Boston Bruins.
  • Is this the night when Auston Matthews scores his first goal of the season?
  • Check the latest NHL odds as three of the four home teams are favored on Wednesday.

Six of the nine home teams came away with victories on Tuesday night. It is a much smaller sample size on Wednesday with the Utah Hockey Club the only team listed by the NHL spread as a road favorite among the four scheduled games.

The NHL news has to begin with the Columbus Blue Jackets holding an emotional ceremony before the home opener to pay tribute to Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew as they both were killed while riding their bicycles. A late goal by James van Riemsdyk enabled the Blue Jackets to cover at +1½ on the puck line even though the visiting Florida Panthers came away with the 4-3 win.

When looking at the NHL injury report, Buffalo forward JJ Peterka, Toronto forward William Nylander and Colorado defenseman Devon Toews are among the players considered to be questionable for Wednesday’s games.

Let’s look at my NHL picks today for Wednesday’s action.

3 Ways to Bet on Tonight’s NHL Games

1. Betting on Underperforming Contenders in Denver

The NHL futures odds have listed the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche as Stanley Cup contenders in recent years. Both teams have been scuffling a bit at the start of the season.

Boston allowed 10 goals in a pair of losses to Atlantic Division rival Florida with forwards Trent Frederic, Charlie Coyle and Morgan Geekie combining for no goals and one assist with a combined plus/minus rating of -16 during a 2-2 start.

That is still better than what has been going on with the Avalanche. Colorado joins the Nashville Predators as the only 0-3 team in the NHL. Colorado has led for less than five minutes in the first three games in losses to Vegas, Columbus and the New York Islanders. Casey Mittelstadt and Mikko Rantanen have three goals each for the Avalanche but no other Colorado player has scored more than once.

Boston has won four of the last five meetings with the Avalanche. However, the Bruins have just one victory in their last five trips to Denver. The sports betting odds have Colorado priced at -125 odds to win. It is too early to freak out about the winless Avalanche but expect a sense of urgency by the home team on Wednesday.

2. Auston Matthews Can’t Be Held Scoreless Forever

There are 200 players who have scored at least one goal this season and none of them happen to be the reigning Rocket Richard winner Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Matthews leads the Maple Leafs with 15 shots on goal but he has no goals and no assists in the first three games of the season. Even Minnesota goalie Filip Gustavsson has more goals than Matthews.

Matthews is coming off a 69-goal season and he had six goals through the first three games a season ago. Matthews could be a solid bet to light the lamp for the first time in Wednesday’s showdown with the visiting Los Angeles Kings. He is among the options in the NHL player prop bets.

Bet on Auston Matthews to Record 1+ Goals (-154)

3. NHL Parlay Bet for Wednesday

With just four games scheduled, the NHL parlay bets are somewhat limited on Wednesday.

We are going with Anaheim Ducks forward Cutter Gauthier at +120  to record his first point of the season against the Utah Hockey Club.

Arizona forward Logan Cooley, who has five assists in the first four games, is undervalued at +108 to have at least one point.

Let’s complete the three-legged parlay with Pittsburgh defenseman Erik Karlsson at -107 to record a point.

Put these three NHL bet predictions together in a parlay bet for a potentially big win.

Cutter Gauther to Score 1+ Points, Logan Cooley to Score 1+ Points and Erik Karlsson to Score 1+ Points in a Parlay (+800)
