There is just one matchup between teams with winning records among the seven games scheduled for Thursday as the October schedule winds to a close. Both the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers look to win to avoid heading into November with losing records.

The best game of the night based on NHL betting lines could be the matchup between Edmonton and Nashville with the Predators the slight favorite at home.

When reviewing the Canadians vs Capitals injuries, Montreal got a surprise when winger Jaraj Slafkovsky returned earlier than expected and had an assist in a loss to Seattle in his first game back. He looks to build on his total of seven points in seven games.

Let’s look at my NHL expert picks for Thursday.

3 Ways to Bet on Thursday Night’s NHL Games

1. Bet on Plenty of Goals in the Kraken vs Maple Leafs Game

Do the Seattle Kraken know how to end a losing streak or what? After a pair of one-goal losses as part of an 0-2-1 stretch, Seattle took its frustrations out on the Montreal Canadiens as defenseman Brandon Montour’s three goals lifted the Kraken to the 8-2 win. Now comes the second of three games on a swing through Canada. The BetUS NHL odds have the total set at 6½ for this matchup.

The Kraken is 1-4-1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs since joining the NHL. The last time the Kraken played in Toronto, the result was a shootout loss. Leading scorer Jared McCann and Montour are among six Ontario natives on the Seattle roster.

Toronto snapped a three-game losing streak by handing the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets their first loss of the 2024-25 season. John Tavares scored three times in the 6-4 win. Max Pacioretty had two points in his first six games and topped that with a three-assist game.

With the way that Seattle and Toronto lit the lamp the last time out, we like Thursday’s matchup to land over the 6½-goal total.

2. How Will the McDavid-Less Oilers Fare in Nashville? Better Bet on Hyman to Score

The lineup will look much different when the Edmonton Oilers hit the ice in Nashville.

Connor McDavid, a five-time NHL scoring champion, is expected to miss 2-3 weeks after being injured while falling into the boards early in Monday’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. That is the biggest piece of NHL news in the early stages of the 2024-25 season.

Edmonton, coming off a run to the Stanley Cup Final, has stumbled out of the gate as the Oilers have already lost four games by at least three goals.

McDavid is tied for the team lead for the Oilers with 10 points. More eyes than normal will turn to Leon Draisaitl, the team leader with six goals, to lead the way while McDavid is sidelined.

Zach Hyman, coming off a 54-goal season, has been pretty invisible with no goals and one assist in his first 10 games. Take a look at the sports betting odds as Hyman is priced at +140 to score a goal against Nashville. He had three goals and three assists in three games against Nashville last season.

3. Take a Look at Young Forwards and Bet This Parlay

There are 19 players under the age of 21 in the NHL right now and the two with the most points will be hitting the ice on Thursday.

Connor Bedard, the 19-year-old who was the top pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, leads the Chicago Blackhawks with nine points in 10 games going into a matchup with a San Jose Sharks team that will be missing 2024 top draft pick Macklin Celebrini.

Matvei Michkov, who fell to No. 7 in the 2023 NHL Draft as a result of signability concerns because of his KHL contract, is one of the few bright spots for the Philadelphia Flyers in the early stages of the season. Even though he has been held scoreless in the last two games, Michkov still has four goals and five assists in his first 10 games.

We’re going to stick with the youngsters as part of a three-legged parlay and go with 19-year-old Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson to have a point to complete today’s NHL parlay picks.

Put these three NHL predictions together in a parlay bet for a potentially big win
