NHL Parlay: Back These Underdogs To Deliver on Thursday March 14

Underdogs come in all shapes and sizes in the NHL. With 12 games on hand on Thursday evening, there are more than a few dogs worth our NHL picks today. In fact, you might say that these teams are in different tiers. But given their matchups, these teams have conspicuously long odds and we look to exploit some potential inaccuracies by the oddsmakers here.

Panthers Get Back at Hurricanes

We don’t need much of a reason to bet online on Florida at underdog odds. Carolina is a top contender and shut out Florida 1-0 in their last meeting in Raleigh. But look at the stats in that game and see that the Hurricanes got away with one here.

Florida is still the better team, especially at scoring goals. It speaks volumes how good this team is when it is 8-1 in its last nine games with Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe, two of their best scorers, having goal-scoring slumps. Sam Reinhart remains a deadly sniper and Florida is getting consistently good netminding from both goalies, unlike last regular season.

Carolina is 5-2 in its last seven games, but 1-5 in its last six versus Florida. On top of that, Carolina’s netminding is among the poorest in the NHL despite the last meeting. Florida gets Carolina back so add it to the parlay.

Flyers Frustrate Maple Leafs

Philadelphia hosts Toronto as an underdog in a matchup that could favor it. The Leafs have been in a bit of a slump and have scored a total of seven goals in their last four games. Auston Matthews has just one goal in five games this March. And while he’s due to break out, it’s unlikely he lights up Philly for three goals again.

The Maple Leafs are also just 4-9 in their last 13 games against Eastern Conference opponents and are 2-5 in their last seven as road favorites. Still, the latest NHL lines peg them as favorites because they have a higher ceiling than Philadelphia and they did beat them handily the last time.

But even if he’s improved recently, goaltender Ilya Samsonov is inconsistent at best. And Philadelphia is a much more stable team at playing defense. We’ll take our chances with the more driven team here, which is also at home. Bet the Flyers.

Sharks Take a Bite out of Penguins at +1½

Betting on San Jose is always a daunting task. The Sharks are one of the worst teams and are even worse following the NHL Trade Deadline. But against Pittsburgh, we like this team’s NHL odds to, at least, keep this game within one goal.

Pittsburgh is a mess at 1-7 in its last eight games. It is struggling to put the puck in the net having scored just one goal or none in six of these contests. San Jose played opponents like Philadelphia and Dallas closely. It has covered its puckline in nine of its last 10 road games. And we’re getting pick’em odds here.

If you’re feeling bolder, take the Sharks on the moneyline but maybe as a straight bet. For this parlay, betting online on San Jose to push Pittsburgh and cover +1½ is a solid play in itself. Take the goals with San Jose.
