NHL Parlay: Best Underdogs To Bet on Dec. 16
We’re back at it with our weekly “Dog Sled” parlay. Nailing these can be tougher than an average Joe trying to score on Connor Hellebuyck, a Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender, who is a part of this new parlay. But should these dog parlays hit, the payouts can be more rewarding than simply stacking favorites – each of the three non-favorites has an edge in the NHL odds for Dec. 16.

Jets Keep Soaring Over Avalanche
Given the current NHL lines, we’ll take the Jets to beat the Avalanche again. Winnipeg has won four of its last six games against Colorado, including the last one. The Jets are hitting their stride and are 4-3 in their last seven games as an underdog. As for the Avalanche, the 2022 Stanley Cup champions are struggling on the road.
Colorado is only 7-7 (7-5-2) as a visitor. It’s had some ugly showings such as a 7-0 loss in Vegas. The Avalanche have also been held to one goal or none in two other road trips. The power play is scoring at a measly 16.6% efficiency. And Alexandar Georgiev is playing poorly in goal.
While Hellebuyck has not been bulletproof against Colorado, he should be the better goaltender here. The Jets are also missing star forward Kyle Connor. But they scored five goals in Los Angeles on Thursday and have enough depth to make up for the loss of their leading goal-scorer. Bet online on the Jets.
NHL Pick: Winnipeg Jets +110
Canadiens Edge the Islanders
Typically, we’d side with the Islanders here. This team has been on a roll lately. But they visit Montreal on the second night of a back-to-back. And the team is already struggling defensively on the road. Unsurprisingly, the Islanders are winless (0-2-1) when playing without rest.
The team was held to one goal or none in two of these defeats. And the only time it scored more than two goals was against Seattle, a team with storied goaltending issues. A broke offense paired with bad defense is a recipe for an upset. That’s why Montreal is the NHL pick here.

The Canadiens have been snake-bitten lately. They average just over 2.6 goals at home and are shooting under 9% overall. But when the Islanders give up over 36 shots and have a 70% penalty kill as a visitor, the Canadiens might be due to have a big night. We’re betting online they do it.
NHL Pick: Montreal Canadiens +115
Blues Pick on Stars
Speaking of picking against teams on the second game of a back-to-back, let’s fade Dallas against St. Louis here. Under normal circumstances, we’ll be all over Dallas given its odds for this NHL game . But it will be Scott Wedgewood in goal and it is facing a Blues team that can get hot.
Don’t be fooled by Wedgewood being 3-0-1 on the road with a 91% save percentage. He’s still letting in over 3.1 goals. And in his career, Wedgewood has a 21-18-10 on the road with a 3.24 goals-against average. He’s not terrible but he could be prone to giving up 3-4 goals here. And that might be enough for the upset.
The Blues are hot when it comes to 5-on-5 play. They are shooting over 12.1%, which is the third-best among home teams. This is how the Blues are 8-5 at home with a +1 goal differential despite having a laughably bad power play (6.1%) and some porous defending. St. Louis is worth betting.
NHL Pick: St. Louis Blues +115
