NHL Parlay: Best Underdogs To Bet on Dec. 9

When betting on games, it is best to look at the odds before the teams. Sometimes the sportsbooks get it a bit wrong as underdogs have a better chance of winning than they expect. Use an odds calculator and convert the dogs’ odds to an implied probability. That’s what we’ll do for this Saturday’s “Dog Sled.” Look at three matchups, which should have tighter lines. These are the best hockey bets for Dec. 9.

Red-Hot Predators Face Porous Leafs

At their present NHL lines, the Predators are being given roughly 40% chance to beat the Maple Leafs. This should be closer to 50% if not over it as Nashville has been in terrific form. It is coming off a 5-1 drubbing of Tampa Bay. Fair play, the Lightning were on the second night of a back-to-back.

But get this: Nashville is 9-2 in its last 11 games, straight-up. It is scoring over 3.5 goals per game with wins over Colorado and Winnipeg. And on the road, Nashville is 4-2 in its last six trips. The matchup against Toronto is a favorable one, too, as the Leafs score plenty only to give up as many.

Toronto is scoring 3.9 goals at home but allowing four. And Joseph Woll, the team’s best netminder, is hurt. Turning to Ilya Samsonov or Martin Jones, Toronto will be ripe for picking. Bet online on the Predators to pull off the upset.

NHL Pick: Nashville Predators

Canadiens Edge the Sabres

Montreal visits Buffalo with an implied probability of 43.5% to win. Nah. The Canadiens should be near-even with the struggling Sabres. Again, recent form is important to note here. Buffalo is 1-4 in its last five games. These Sabres, despite its star power, struggle to find the back of the net.

Buffalo is scoring 2.3 goals at home, which is the third-lowest mark. In contrary, the Canadiens are scoring nearly 2.9 on the road. This is not a lot. But add the fact that Buffalo gives up three per game and has injuries to its best goaltender and best defenseman.

The Canadiens are also 5-6 (5-4-2) on the road and 7-4 on the puck line. Given the lines, Montreal is worth an NHL pick either with its money line or puck line. Since it has beaten Buffalo four out of the last five times, we’ll bet it can make it five of six.

NHL Pick: Montreal Canadiens

Canucks Extend Hurricanes’ Woes

It’s interesting to see Carolina favored over Vancouver here. Under normal circumstances, the Hurricanes should be favored. But this team is gasping for air on this Western Canadian road trip. And it finishes it in Vancouver where the Canucks are 9-4 (9-3-1) this season. At their odds, the Canucks are being given a 50/50 shot roughly.

We say the Canucks should be favored more confidently. The NHL news also has Andrei Svechnikov, one of Carolina’s top forwards, potentially absent. This team scored a total of five goals in this road trip. The Canucks are allowing 2.1 goals at home, which is the third-fewest.

Thatcher Demko, Vancouver’s likely goaltender, is 8-3-0 at home with a 92.9% save percentage and a 2.23 goals-against average. In the event he gives up three or more goals, the team has his back. Vancouver averages nearly 3.9 goals at home. Back the Canucks to get this done while their line is like this.

NHL Pick: Vancouver Canucks -105
