NHL Parlay: Bet on Low-Scoring Matchups For Tuesday, March 19

“Defense wins championships.” And we’re riding this motto in our latest NHL parlay, which features four of the best defensive teams. These teams have short NHL playoff odds and are all ranked within the top 10 in goals against. As a result, the totals in their respective matchups should go under even if they come in different numbers.

Bruins Shut Down Senators – Under 6

For the second straight season, the Bruins may bring home the Presidents’ Trophy thanks mainly to a stalwart defense. Whether it is Jeremy Swayman or Linus Ullmark in goal, Boston does not skip a beat. It gives up just over 2.5 goals per game and is ranked in the top five in penalty-killing.

Even elite offenses such as Toronto and Edmonton have failed to score more than two goals against Boston in recent matchups. So what more with Ottawa, a struggling team? The Senators are 22nd in scoring among road teams (2.9), which is why most of their trips have gone under the total.

Against Boston, eight of Ottawa’s last 10 meetings have gone under the total. Also, Ottawa’s power play is scoring at 14.3%. We don’t see this trend changing as Boston continues to have its way. Bet online on the total to go under.

NHL Pick: Under 6

Jets and Rangers Fly Flow – Under 5½

The Jets and Rangers also have bettable Stanley Cup odds due to how well they have been playing. Credit their defenses for their success as they give up a combined 5.1 goals per game. The former leads the NHL in goals against while the latter has a goaltender that shuts down the Jets.

Igor Shesterkin has a 95.3% save percentage against Winnipeg and he could just stonewall this team again. Winnipeg can struggle to score against playoff-caliber opponents. It was shut out by the Canucks, scored just two goals against Nashville, and was held to one goal against Dallas.

Winnipeg also lost Gabriel Villardi, one of its best players, and this could further slow down its offense. And on the flip side, we don’t see Winnipeg letting the Rangers score more than three goals. This could be a 3-1 or 2-1 type of game and our NHL pick is on the total to go under 5½ goals.

NHL Pick: Under 5½

Kings Neutralize the Blackhawks Again – Under 5½

We picked the Kings to minimize the Blackhawks in one of our NHL predictions before. And we’ll do it again as not much has changed with these teams. Seven of the Kings’ last eight games have gone under the total thanks to its steady defense. Only Dallas has been able to consistently score against the Kings lately.

Chicago, on the other hand, has had some high-scoring games. But it does it against also-rans such as San Jose and Anaheim. When Chicago faces any decent team like Washington, Colorado or Los Angeles, it gets neutralized. That’s why its last five meetings versus L.A. have gone under the totals.

It’s unlikely Los Angeles will shut out Chicago or score five goals again. But we’re hard-pressed to believe this game will be high-scoring. TheBetUS sportsbook set the total at 5½ just like the last time. And once again, it will go under.

NHL Pick: Under 5½
