NHL Parlay: Betting For, or Against Canadian Teams

We head north of the border on Tuesday for our three NHL matchups Tuesday. But our picks to win may just surprise you based on the NHL Vegas odds. With Toronto and Edmonton in action, two Stanley Cup contenders, we pick against them but back… Montreal? Based on the matchups, these three bets are the best parlay pieces.

Canadiens Take Down the Ducks vs Canadiens ML -135

Under most circumstances, we would not tout Montreal as an NHL pick. But we are getting them at a discounted line because of a 7-2 blowout versus St. Louis. But the Blues are on fire and the Ducks are not. Montreal has mainly lost to playoff-caliber teams in recent games (except Ottawa).

The Canadiens are also significantly faster than the Ducks. Montreal plays at a quicker pace and should beat Anaheim to the puck and force odd-man rushes. Anaheim won their last meeting in Montreal because goalie Lukas Dostal stood on his head. Montreal outplayed Anaheim otherwise. Forward Cole Caufield scored a pair of goals and he’s available here.

Montreal goaltender Jake Allen is also 8-4 with a 92.6% save percentage against the Ducks. Anaheim is a whopping 0-25 (0-24-1) when it is held to just two goals or fewer. That’s something Montreal can manage. Bet the Canadiens.

Sing The Blues, Maple Leafs vs Blues ML – 200

Speaking of the Blues, we’re betting online on them to stay hot and upset the Maple Leafs. Toronto remains an overrated team when it comes to the NHL lines. It is 12-12 (12-10-2) at home and is 5-5 in its last 10 games. The defense is subpar and the goaltending is atrocious. This is the team to bet on against a resurgent contender?

The Blues are not perfect. They are getting outshot and outpossessed on average even with the coaching change. But St. Louis finds ways to win partially due to stellar netminding from either goalie. It is 7-2 in its last nine games with five straight on the road, including one over the mighty Canucks.

Most of Toronto’s home games – 15 of 26 – have gone over the total because the Leafs need to score 4+ goals to win games. In a potential firefight, we’ll take our chances with the +170 underdog, especially since it is healthier and in better form.

Red Wings Pounce on Rusty Oilers: Red Wings +1½

Detroit is also a road underdog playing better than the home favorite, Edmonton. The Oilers were on a historic run but that came crashing to a halt thanks to the All-Star break. Now, Edmonton is struggling and is 1-2 since returning to action. Its win came against the tanking Ducks. But against Los Angeles and Vegas, two playoff teams, it scored one goal in total.

The Red Wings have been one of the best teams this 2024 with a 10-4 (10-2-2) record. It is scoring nearly 3.4 goals per game, which is more than what Edmonton has averaged (over three). More notably, the Red Wings have an 85.7% penalty kill, which is the sixth-best. This is key against Edmonton which uses the power play as a weapon.

Given their form, we’re riding with the Red Wings here. Their moneyline can be had at +175, which is a nice bet. But for this parlay, we’ll go with their puck line at -130 on the online sports betting odds since the Oilers could just “wake up” and just outscore Detroit.
