NHL Parlay: Betting on the Best Matchups

For our NHL parlay this Saturday, we picked a pair of heavyweight tilts and a matchup between two of the worst teams. Either way, these three are almost even if you look at their Stanley Cup odds. We mixed it up with moneyline bets and a total. The key for this parlay is to find the best betting lines to maximize the potential of this three-legger.

Toronto Takes Out Edmonton – Toronto (+110)

In a battle of Canadian contenders, our money is on the underdogs: the Maple Leafs. Toronto plays host to Edmonton with a litany of injuries, hence its betting line. But we’ll gladly make the Leafs our NHL pick because they know how to contain Connor McDavid and his Oilers. Check it: Toronto has held Edmonton to an average of 2.3 goals in their last 10 meetings.

The Leafs have neutralized Edmonton’s vaunted power play (PP), keeping it at 11.8% (2-of-17). And on the flip side, the Oilers have a poor penalty kill as a visitor: 75.5%. Even without Mitch Marner for Toronto, the Leafs can still rack up goals whether on the PP or 5-on-5.

Auston Matthews has recovered from his “mini-slump” and is scoring at a torrid pace again. And he’s scored against Edmonton in 9 of his last 12 games against it. Whether by defense or by offense, the Leafs have the tools to pull this off. So we’re banking on them.

Rangers Tame the Panthers – New York Rangers (-110)

The NHL odds tonight are split between Florida and New York. The former is the best road team in the NHL with a 24-11 (24-9-2) record. But the Rangers are more than its match. New York has won four of its last six matchups versus Florida and is 13-4 when playing conference opponents at home.

But what makes us more confident in picking the Rangers are the injuries. Florida is missing two of its better defensemen plus Aleksander Barkov, its captain and best two-way center. As such, Florida’s defense has dipped. It allowed 30+ shots and 3+ goals against Carolina and Dallas in recent road games.

And the Rangers have been hot at home. They’ve scored 3+ goals in six of their last eight games with three or more goals. Florida is just 3-7 (3-5-2) when it gives up that many goals when playing on the road. And we’re betting online something like that happens here. So add the Rangers’ moneyline to the parlay.

Sharks and Blackhawks Get Crazy – Over 6 (-115)

The Sharks and Blackhawks may put together the most entertaining game. They are playing for nothing but the “kids” go crazy anyway. Chicago has made a habit of blasting loser teams like San Jose. Excluding the egg they laid against Anaheim, Chicago has scored 5+ goals against the last four losing teams they’ve played.

San Jose was one of these teams as the Sharks lost 5-2 to Chicago. And that’s the tip of it. The Sharks have given up four goals, eight, five, four, six, and seven in recent matchups. This team is the right candidate for Chicago to get going again though we reckon the Blackhawks will let in some goals as well.

The Blackhawks have given up 4+ goals in seven of their last 11 games. The sportsbook only has a total of six and that’s a miscalculation here. Expect a high-scoring game between bad teams.
