NHL Parlay: Ride Dog Sled Thursday

The home-ice advantage is not always a thing in the NHL. Home teams are winning 53.6% of the time in 2023-24 and the underdogs win 42.3% of the time. Roughly, this probability translates to odds at +136. We plucked three home underdogs with odds for the NHL that are shorter than that, meaning these teams, theoretically, should have a better chance for success. They’re worth putting in our “Dog Sled” NHL parlay.

Flyers Take Out Devils

Yes, we still believe in the Philadelphia Flyers. At least, we’re considering the NHL lines and the New Jersey Devils’ situation. The betting line indicates the Flyers have a 42.7% chance of beating the Devils. New Jersey is currently dealing with injuries. Top defenseman Dougie Hamilton left the last game with an injury and a couple of centers are out.

Meanwhile, the Flyers are healthy and overachieving this season. Travis Konecny is on his way to an All-Star selection and the team is 9-9 (9-8-1) as an underdog. On top of that, Philadelphia has won four of its last six games hosting New Jersey. It outshot and outplayed New Jersey in a 3-2 loss and won 5-2 prior to that.

Philadelphia matches up well with the Devils regardless of how far apart they are in the standings. And this time, they are not that distant and New Jersey could be short one or two star players. Give us the home team.

NHL Pick: Philadelphia Flyers (+130)

Jets Fly Past the Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have the two best forwards in the NHL but the Winnipeg Jets still prove to be their match: Winnipeg is 8-3 (8-2-1) in its last 11 games against Edmonton. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl may be dominant, but Winnipeg has often upset the NHL predictions here.

The Jets are a deeper team with a much better goaltender. And don’t be alarmed by Winnipeg’s 2-8 (2-7-1) record as an underdog this season. This team has won four of its last six home games. Both losses were to Dallas, which is a much better team than Edmonton right now.

The Oilers will either need to thoroughly outscore the Jets or hope their goaltenders can match Connor Hellebuyck. We don’t see Edmonton pulling off what it did to Vegas. In the last nine games, the Oilers’ losses have come against Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay. Winnipeg is not too far from these teams. Bet online on the Jets.

NHL Pick: Winnipeg Jets (Ev)

Predators Take Out Wild

Like Edmonton, Minnesota is a contender that is struggling mightily this season. The Wild have won only two of 10 road games (2-6-2) and are 6-10-4 overall. The goaltending has fallen off a cliff while the penalty kill on the road is a miserable 69.4%. That’s alarming considering Minnesota does not have the offense to make up for it.

And yet here are the Wild as a slight underdog against Nashville. The Predators are not underdogs, but we’re going to parlay their puck line at a hefty dog price. The Wild have not scored more than two goals in their last four road games. And they face Juuse Saros, who has a career 94.2% save percentage against them for Nashville.

The Predators have scored 3+ goals in six of their last seven home games. This could be a blowout in the making given the disparity in their recent forms. Nashville by two goals is one of the best NHL bets.

NHL Pick: Nashville Predators -1½ (+205)
