NHL Picks for Thursday 10/10: Stamkos Top Prop Bet in Nashville Debut
- San Jose rookies Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith are set to make their NHL debuts in the last of the nine games scheduled for Thursday.
- Columbus plays at Minnesota in the first regular-season game for the Blue Jackets since the death of star winger Johnny Gaudreau.
- Check the latest NHL odds as nine teams play their season openers on Thursday with two games airing on TNT.
It is going to be a busy night around the NHL rinks on Thursday with nine games scheduled and thankfully none of the teams in the path of the latest hurricane have home games scheduled.

The Florida Panthers and St. Louis Blues are two of the four road favorites, according to the BetUS sportsbook odds.
There were only five games played on Wednesday with Calgary, Montreal and Winnipeg the teams listed by the sports betting odds as underdogs to win outright. Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers team was one of the three to be shut out. In the other two games, a total of 23 goals were scored.
Let’s look ahead to Thursday’s action.

Plenty of Eyes On Rookie Mackin Celebrini’s NHL Debut
It has been a quiet start so far for the rookie class with Vancouver winger Aatu Raty having an assist while playing less than nine minutes and New Jersey defenseman Seamus Casey scoring a goal in one of the two NHL Global Series games in Prague.
Perhaps that will change on Thursday.
Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 pick in the most recent NHL Draft, will make his NHL debut as will fellow San Jose Sharks center Will Smith. The NHL futures odds have Celebrini second at +500 in the Calder Trophy odds behind only Philadelphia’s Matvei Michkov (+275) with Smith priced at +1200 in the rookie of the year race.
There is more value for Smith (+129) than Celebrini (-115) to have at least one point.
San Jose is priced at +134 against the visiting St. Louis Blues as St. Louis wasn’t singing the Blues after Jordan Kyrou’s two goals lifted St. Louis to a season-opening win over Seattle.
Montreal defenseman Lane Hutson, who is fourth at +650 in the Calder Trophy odds had no shots attempted in his season debut so he looks to make more of an impact in Game 2.
Another rookie to watch is Logan Stankoven of the Dallas Stars. Stankoven is still considered a rookie despite having six goals and eight assists in 24 games during the 2023-24 regular season and adding eight points in 19 playoff games. Dallas (-116) is the slight road favorite against the Nashville Predators.
That game will also mark the first game as a member of the Predators for longtime Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos. Stamkos is priced at -152 to have at least one point.
Steven Stamkos to record 1+ Points (-152)
Emotional First Game For Visiting Columbus Blue Jackets
Normally, the Columbus Blue Jackets playing on the road against the Minnesota Wild would draw little interest outside of the Columbus and Minneapolis markets. However, there is nothing normal around the Blue Jackets right now.
The death of star Columbus winger Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew in late August shook up the hockey world.
Since that tragic accident, there have been moments of silence around the NHL and in other sports. Montreal’s Cole Caufield changed to No. 13, the number worn by Johnny Gaudreau and he pointed to the sky after scoring the lone goal in Montreal’s 1-0 upset of visiting Toronto.

The real emotion should come out when Columbus plays its first home game next week. It will still be a bit of a surreal scene when the Blue Jackets take on the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Priced at -250 by the NHL betting spread, Minnesota is the second-heaviest of the home favorites in the nine-game slate but the casual fan will be pulling for the Blue Jackets as this will be the first regular-season game for Columbus since the passing of Johnny Hockey.
Columbus Blue Jackets +1½ (-120)
Parlay Bet to Consider
The results from Wednesday show that putting together team-based parlays can be a little tricky, with teams still shaking the rust off. Teams featuring Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Sidney Crosby failed to score. Who saw that coming among those who bet online?
Let’s go with the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers to post a multi-goal win as the road favorite against the Ottawa Senators to start with. Take the game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Drew Doughty-less Los Angeles Kings to go over the total and the Boston Bruins to bounce back after falling in their season opener at -270 to win outright against rival Montreal in Boston’s home opener.
Parlay Panthers -1½ vs Senators, Sabres-Kings Over and Bruins ML vs Canadiens (+593)
Injury Update
When looking at the NHL injury report, we need to start with the Ottawa Senators with forwards Claude Giroux, Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk joining defenseman Thomas Chabot as players listed as day-to-day heading into the matchup with Florida. Tkachuk, Stutzle and Giroux were three of the top four scorers for Ottawa last season while Chabot was third among Ottawa defensemen in scoring despite missing 31 games. Based on reports out of Ottawa, they could all play on Thursday but it is something to monitor.
With Claude Giroux back at practice, he’s back on a line with Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stützle.
PP1: Stutzle, Tkachuk, Sanderson, Norris, Batherson
PP2: Perron, Chabot, Giroux, Pinto, Greig— Julian McKenzie (@jkamckenzie) October 9, 2024
Montreal winger Patrik Laine and defenseman David Reinbacher, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty are among the players who won’t play on Thursday. Boston winger Brad Marchand, Buffalo Sabres winger JJ Peterka, Dallas center Wyatt Johnston, Minnesota winger Matt Boldy, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, New York Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin are day-to-day.
