NHL Salami: Moderate Mondays

Plenty of Scoring Expected From Nine NHL Games, But…

With nine NHL games on Monday, we could be in for a high-scoring evening. Thus far, NHL games have averaged about 6½ goals per game. Point to some subpar goaltending or potent offenses starting the season fast. But after a break, we could see a “reset” and scoring will tone down on the NHL betting odds.

Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports and NHL lines. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.

NHL Totals Preview

Panthers vs Bruins

  • Over 6½ (-120), Under 6½ (Ev)

The Panthers are off to a lukewarm start (seven goals) based on the lofty standards they set last season. The Bruins, on the other hand, have some inflated offensive totals thanks to beating up on Arizona, which has already yielded 96 shots. Things will be fast and furious here though Boston is due to regress.

Pick: Under 6½ (Ev)

Penguins vs Canadiens

  • Totals: Over 6½ (-125), Under 6½ (+105)

Pittsburgh, like Boston, padded its stats by pushing around Arizona. But more impressively, the Penguins blasted through Tampa Bay and lead the NHL in goals (12). They should overwhelm Montreal, though the Canadiens may not score enough to go ‘over’ the total.

Pick: Under 6½ (+105)

Ducks vs Rangers

  • Totals: Over 6 (-105), Under 6 (-115)

The Ducks are playing like the young and inexperienced team they’re supposed to be, giving up 86 shots and allowing 11 goals. The Rangers have been prolific and will “big brother” the Ducks here. But with Igor Shesterkin in net, Anaheim will struggle to score hence why we bet online on the ‘under’ here.

Pick: Under 6 (-115)

Coyotes vs Maple Leafs

  • Totals: Over 6½ (-130), Under 6½ (+110)

At first glance, this should be a walkover for Toronto hence their massive online gambling number. However, the Leafs are 1-6 in its last seven home games against Arizona and the total has gone under in four of their last five meetings.

Pick: Under 6½ (+105)

Canucks vs Capitals

  • Totals: Over 6 (-120), Under 6 (-Ev)

It’s hard to get a read on where the Canucks and Capitals stand. On one hand, these teams are middle-of-the-pack outfits when it comes to defense. On the other, their goaltenders, Thatcher Demko and Darcy Kuemper could each stonewall the other team. Hard not to bet on the under here.

Pick: Under 6 (Ev)

Kings vs Red Wings

  • Over 6 (-125), Under 6 (+105)

Detroit is 2-0 and one of only three teams to have played multiple games and allowed one goal on average. They can thank their netminders for that. But we’re bearish on Detroit’s actual defense, and the Kings are coming off a seven-goal performance against Minnesota.

Pick: Over 6 (-125)

Avalanche vs Wild

  • Totals: Over 6½ (-115), Under 6½ (-105)

One aspect to the Kings dropping a touchdown on the Wild is their abysmal goaltending. Marc-Andre Fleury has allowed 11 goals in two starts and Minnesota has yielded 14. We’re betting on Fleury or Filip Gustavsson turning things around though. So even with the mighty Avalanche in town, this game should feature less scoring.

Pick: Under 6½ (-105)

Jets vs Stars

  • Totals: Over 6 (-110), Under 6 (-110)

Predicting the scoring in Jets or Stars games is like rolling the dice. That’s why their matchup’s total sits squarely at six with pick’em odds. But between two great goaltenders and a Dallas team that occasionally struggles to find the net, bet on this to go under.

Pick: Under 6 (-110)

Hurricanes vs Kraken

  • Totals: Over 6½ (-115), Under 6½ (-105)

The Kraken still has some of the worst netminding in the NHL. And that is bad news when the Hurricanes visit. Carolina has not missed a beat as it averages 39 shots per game. Even without Sebastain Aho, the ‘Canes should rain shots on Seattle. The traffic here will be one way, so it’s hard to go over the 6½ total.

Pick: Under 6½ (-105)

And The Totals Are…

There is a decent case to make that every one of these nine NHL games will go under their respective totals. We expect some bounce-back performances from goaltenders along with one-sided games to make for a lower-scoring evening than the odds expect.

Pick: Under 56½ (-115)
