NHL Salami: Tenfold Thursday
Plenty of Scoring Expected From Packed Slate
It is another busy night on the NHL rinks. Even with five of the players with at least 10 points not playing on Thursday, the potential is there for some high-scoring affairs.
When looking at the NHL betting odds, just three of the 10 games have totals priced at six. It could make for an entertaining evening of hockey, especially after eight of the 10 games played on Tuesday finished with six goals or less being scored.

Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports, and NHL lines for NHL Salami. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.
NHL Totals Preview
Panthers vs Flyers
- Over 6½ (-105), Under 6½ (-115)
The total set by the sportsbook has gone under in eight of the last 10 games for the Flyers as well as in eight of the last 11 games for Panthers.
Both teams are off to slow starts offensively. Florida is tied for 21st in the NHL with an average of three goals per game and Philadelphia is 23rd with 2.83 goals per contest. The Panthers also have one of the worst success rates on the power play.
There have been 19 goals scored in the last three matchups between Florida and Philadelphia, with the Panthers winning all three games, so that is something to consider for those who bet online.
Pick: Under 6½ (-115)
Canadiens vs Sabres
- Totals: Over 6½ (-125), Under 6½ (+105)
There have been six goals or less scored in four of the last five meetings between these rebuilding franchises.
The Canadiens have been rather anemic on the power play, but the Sabres are struggling a bit to kill off penalties so something will need to give.
Buffalo is fourth in the NHL with an average of 3.83 goals per game. However, the Sabres are near the bottom of the league in shots on goal so that scoring trend is not likely to last.
Pick: Under 6½ (+105)
Wild vs Senators
- Totals: Over 6½ (-115), Under 6½ (-105)
Ottawa got some bad news with the injury to promising young forward Josh Norris and it is looking like he will be out for a while. Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk have combined for eight goals and 11 assists in the first six games and will look to keep on carrying the offensive load.
“We want to win, we want to bring this team into the playoffs going forward and now. We’re doing anything we can to help this team win.”

The Senators are second in the NHL with an average of 4.17 goals a game and are converting on 25% of their power-play chances. Minnesota is third in the league in power-play rating, scoring on 32% of the man-advantage situations. Overall, the Wild are fifth in goals per game. Only Arizona is allowing more goals per game than Minnesota so this has the feeling of an up-and-down affair.
The teams have combined for seven, nine and nine goals in the last three meetings.
Five of Minnesota’s last six games went over the NHL odds total.
Pick: Over 6½ (-115)
Red Wings vs Bruins
- Totals: Over 6½ (Ev), Under 6½ (-120)
The last time the teams met, the result was a 5-3 win by Detroit. However, the recent history between the teams has been trending in the direction of low-scoring matchups.
Only four teams allow more shots on goal than the Red Wings. However, they have been able to keep a large number of those out of the high-scoring areas. Boston has been finding ways to win, but the offense has not looked elite. In the last three games, all wins by the Bruins, Boston has scored eight goals and allowed just five.
Star winger Brad Marchand is getting closer to making his season debut as he has returned to the ice, but don’t look for him to play until some point in November. Detroit is without Tyler Bertuzzi.
Pick: Under 6½ (-120)

Blues vs Predators
- Totals: Over 6 (-110), Under 6 (-110)
This has been a high-scoring series as of late with five of the last six games going over the total. There have been 30 goals scored in the last three meetings.
St. Louis is 29th and Nashville 31st in goals scored per game with Nashville struggling mightily on the power play. The Predators have some defensive issues and with a total of six, this has a chance to finish over.
The Blues are without Pavel Buchnevich while fellow winger Brandon Saad is questionable with an upper-body injury.
Pick: Over 6 (-110)
Oilers vs Blackhawks
- Over 6½ (-110), Under 6½ (-110)
Connor McDavid has no goals and one assist over his last three games so the Oilers’ four-time NHL scoring leader is due to break out sooner rather than later. The surprising Blackhawks have won four games in a row, although 31 goals have been scored in those contests.
Both teams are scoring on more than 30% of their power-play opportunities so a key to this game could be how often they head to the penalty box.
Chicago center Tyler Johnson is questionable so keep an eye on his status.
Over the last five meetings, the teams alternated scoring five and seven goals. If that trend continues, this game will head under the total, but it just feels like McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and company are ready to roll.
Pick: Over 6½ (-110)
Capitals vs Stars
- Totals: Over 6 (-110), Under 6 (-110)
The NHL schedule maker isn’t doing the Stars many favors as this is the third game in the last four days. Dallas looked a step slow in a 3-1 loss to Boston on Tuesday. Dallas is back home so perhaps that will help.
Playing Washington could help get the Stars going as well. Only seven teams allow more goals per game than the Capitals. Washington is 29th out of 32 teams in faceoff winning percentage so puck possession has been an issue.
The Dallas quartet of Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, Joe Pavelski and Tyler Seguin have combined for no goals and one assist in the last two games and that won’t continue.
There have been five goals scored in each of the last five games between Dallas and Washington so perhaps this is the night when the offensive players get their revenge.
Pick: Over 6 (-110)
Canucks vs Kraken
- Totals: Over 6½ (-110), Under 6½ (-110)
Vancouver is killing off just 57% of the opponent’s power plays and that is a frightening number. Seattle is a little better, but a 69% success rate is still troubling so both teams need to keep the game played 5-on-5.
Seattle’s power play is clicking along pretty well with goals scored 29% of the time with the man-advantage.
Vancouver is the only NHL team yet to win a game so these are desperate times for the Canucks. Having six players, including winger Brock Boeser and puck-moving defenseman Quinn Hughes, on injured reserve hasn’t helped.
These teams have been consistent with the final three games between the Canucks and Kraken resulting in 5-2 wins for Vancouver.
Pick: Over 6½ (-110)
Jets vs Kings
- Totals: Over 6 (-115), Under 6 (-105)
The Kings have had some defensive struggles early in the season. However, the last time out they held a talented Tampa Bay team to 25 shots on goal and two goals. The Kings killed off all four power-play opportunities by the Lightning. Los Angeles will look to build on that performance.
Winnipeg blanked St. Louis in its last game so there is momentum for the Jets as well.
Each of the last five meetings between the teams finished as 3-2 finals so perhaps this game is headed the same way. Both teams are missing key forwards. Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers as well as the Los Angeles duo of Alex Iafallo and Alex Turcotte are currently sidelined.
Pick: Under 6 (-105)

Maple Leafs vs Sharks
- Totals: Over 6½ (Ev), Under 6½ (-120)
San Jose might be the lowest-scoring team in the NHL, but the Sharks have done enough scoring to post recent wins over a pair of Eastern Conference teams. Toronto has a team loaded with offensive standouts. However, they are usually susceptible to giving up odd-man rushes.
The Maple Leafs will look to rebound from scoring just once in a loss to Vegas the last time out. William Nylander scored his team-leading fourth goal in that game.
The total has gone under in six of the last eight games for the Maple Leafs so they should be on the verge of a big game sooner rather than later.
Between Toronto and San Jose, there are five defensemen on injured reserve so there could be chances for open ice in this matchup.
Pick: Over 6½ (Ev)
And the Totals are …
Seven of the nine NHL teams averaging more than 3.5 goals per game will be in action on Thursday night so there is a potential for plenty of offensive highlights. It would not be a surprise to see at least six of the 10 matchups finishing over the total.
Talent-laden Toronto and Edmonton teams will be putting up some big number seven if there have been some bumps in the road recently.
Pick: Over 63½
