NHL Wednesday Parlay: Dog Sled Returns With Three Non-Favorites

After a mysterious day off, the NHL is back with a full slate of games on Wednesday. All 32 teams are in action and it’s a good time to bring back the “Dog Sled” where we parlay the best underdogs. Thus far, about 36% of road underdogs have won on the moneyline. We offer not one, not two, but three road dogs as some of the best NHL hockey bets today.

Flyers Fly Past Islanders

The Flyers have been a money train this season. Unlike last year, John Tortorella’s boys have been able to sustain the hot start and have now won five straight – four as underdogs. And get this: Philadelphia is 8-6 (8-5-1) as an underdog this season.

Philly is getting it done via strong 5-on-5 play. The team is scoring nearly 3.5 goals per road game despite an embarrassing 3.8% power-play percentage. At some point, its red-hot shooting percentage of 11.3% will regress. But when this team is producing two-plus goals on high-danger chances, you know you have a team playing above its pay grade.

And on the other end, you have the snake-bitten Islanders. This team is averaging more shots and just as many if not more high-danger chances on 5-on-5 but is producing fewer goals at barely 2.7 per game. Had the NHL lines been flipped, we may have sided with the Isles. But it’s not. So, bet online on the Flyers.

NHL Pick: Philadelphia Flyers

Jets Outscore Lightning

Speaking of potent goal-scoring, let us introduce you to two teams: Winnipeg and Tampa Bay. The former averages nearly 3.6 goals per road game while the latter scores nearly 3.7 at home. That’s why the total is juiced to go over 6½ goals here. And given the current online sports betting lines, give us Winnipeg at dog money.

Winnipeg is only 1-6 (1-5-1) as an underdog this season. But this is bound to pick up as the Jets’ formula of high-octane offense paired with elite netminding has paid dividends. Tampa Bay does not have Andrei Vasilevskiy in net and Jonas Johansson is a big downgrade.

On top of that, the Lightning give up nearly 35 shots and 13 high-danger chances. You give Winnipeg that many attempts against a mediocre goaltender and it’s lights out. Bet the Jets.

NHL Pick: Winnipeg Jets

Canucks Pass Test Against Avalanche

The Canucks are arguably the best team in the NHL right now. And we get them as underdogs? Vancouver has a tall task in beating Colorado at home. The Avalanche are 5-2 at home and 5-2 on the puck line. That’s how dominant this team has been. As impressive as Vancouver’s 3.9 goals per road game is, the Avalanche are scoring 4.7 at home.

But there is an edge for Vancouver here and it’s in net: Thatcher Demko. He is healthy this season and looks like a Vezina Trophy contender. While he’s only 2-3-0 on the road with a 90.6% save percentage, he should outperform Alexandar Georgiev for Colorado.

Georgiev is 4-1-0 at home but averages an 86.7% save percentage with a 3.18 goals against average. Colorado only allows 25.3 shots per game. But the Canucks have the second-best PP at 36.7% and score on 11.7% of their shots on 5-on-5. Yes, Vancouver is the best NHL bet as dogs.

NHL Pick: Vancouver Canucks
