Odds Are Trocheck Line Leads Rangers In Game 2 vs Panthers

The New York Rangers must find their top form on offense as the underdog in the NHL odds when they host the Florida Panthers for a critical Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final series on Friday night.

The Rangers were held to 24 shots on net with 12 coming in the third period before suffering a 3-0 defeat in Game 1. New York had totaled 35 goals in its first 10 playoff games, but could not beat goalie Sergei Bobrovsky on Wednesday.

The line of Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, and Alexis Lafreniere led the way with nine shots combined for the Rangers and will be expected to provide a spark. Trocheck has 14 points to share the team lead with Mika Zibanejad in the postseason.

Can they find some holes in Bobrovsky, who owns a .910 save percentage in the playoffs?

Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe each had a goal and an assist for Florida in Game 1 while Sam Bennett added an empty netter and registered five shots. Bennett may have the best odds for the Panthers (+350) to score a goal and post a point (+141).

Good Value For Trocheck

Trocheck, New York’s top-line center, started his career with Florida and had 75 points for the Panthers in 2017-18. Trocheck topped that figure this season with a career-high 77 that included 25 goals.

Despite those good numbers, you should be able to get +225 odds at the BetUS sportsbook for a goal in Game 2. Panarin played a team-high 24:37 and Trocheck 22:30 in Game 1. Defenseman Adam Fox played 24:56.

Panarin (+160) and Lafreniere (+300) are also good bets to score with Trocheck’s work. If the Rangers are going to fight back in this series, it has to start Friday.

Lundell Dark Horse Bet For Cats

Tkachuk leads the Panthers with 15 points while Verhaeghe shares second with center Aleksander Barkov at 13.

Barkov, a defensive demon who is +600 in the odds to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, skates primarily with veteran Vladimir Tarasenko and sniper San Reinhart. Tarasenko has 46 playoff goals in 109 games while Reinhart (four shots Wednesday) had 57 goals in the regular season.

Tkachuk and Verhaeghe play with under-rated center Anton Lundell, who has nine points and a +6 rating in the postseason. The 22-year-old Finn might be the best bet at +129 to post at least a point in Game 2.

Tkachuk (+179) and Verhaeghe (+160), who had five shots in Game 1, have decent odds to score on Friday. Lundell’s odds (+400) are worth a look, though.

More Scoring From Defense?

No doubt the forwards are the players to watch on the offensive end in this series, but there is good value if you want to take a shot with a defensemen.

Fox has the best offensive numbers overall for the Rangers, but the former Norris Trophy winner appears to be playing hurt in the postseason. New York has just two goals from its defenseman in the playoffs and Fox has been limited to four assists.

Florida has received six goals from its defensemen this postseason with Brandon Montour (three) leading the way. Gustav Forsling has two tallies and is +10 over 12 games.

If you want to take a wild shot, perhaps throw a few dollars on Aaron Ekblad to score his first goal of the playoffs at +900 in Game 2. Ekblad is on the ice a lot with Forsling on the top pair for the Panthers and has 19 shots in the playoffs..
