Vegas Can Hit 100-Point Mark With a Win

Edmonton Looks to Extend Point Streak

There won’t be a need for much in the way of advanced scouting in this matchup since the teams played just three days earlier. In two of the three meetings this season, neither team led by more than a goal.

This could be another tight affair even if the Vegas Golden Knights haven’t played since Saturday’s overtime win against the Oilers while Edmonton was in action on Monday night.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the winning goal with less than eight minutes left after the Oilers squandered a two-goal lead in the third period as Edmonton was involved in its fourth straight one-goal affair. Edmonton is 4-4 when playing the second of back-to-back games with 34 goals allowed in those contests.

Vegas is 8-1 over the last nine games and has won four in a row to remain just ahead of Los Angeles in the Pacific Division standings. It is looking like Edmonton will open the Stanley Cup playoffs on the road against whichever one of those teams fails to win the division title.

Both the Oilers and Golden Knights have at least 20 wins both at home and on the road – Colorado is the only other Western Conference team to accomplish that feat – so keep that in mind when making NHL picks.

When looking at some of the NHL news, Edmonton is without forward Ryan McLeod and defenseman Ryan Murray.

For Vegas, defenseman Alec Martinez is expected to be back in the lineup. Forwards William Carrier, Reilly Smith and Mark Stone are all out. Rookie Logan Thompson is the latest of the goalies for the Golden Knights to be sidelined as he joins Adin Hill and Robin Lehner as the netminders to be injured this season.

According to the NHL odds, the Oilers (+1200) are tied for fifth and the Golden Knights (+1400) are tied for eighth in the odds to win the Stanley Cup title.

Draisaitl Rolling for Oilers

Has there been a player on pace for more than 50 goals and nearly 130 points flying more under the radar than the Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl.

The remarkable season of teammate and occasional linemate Connor McDavid attracts most of the attention. However, over the last two weeks, Draisaitl is the leading point producer in the NHL with league-best totals of 12 assists and 16 points while McDavid contributed five goals and eight assists during that span. McDavid, who leads the NHL with 60 goals, has been held without a goal in each of the last two games. That hasn’t been an issue with Draisaitl as he has five straight multi-point games.

Draisaitl is in some select company as he joined Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Glenn Anderson as the only players with 300 goals with the Oilers. McDavid will join that list with his next goal.

Edmonton has points in its last seven games and with a 6-0-1 record, the Oilers have the best points percentage in the NHL since March 14. However, the Oilers have picked up just two points on Los Angeles and three points on Vegas to remain in third place in the Pacific Division standings.

The Las Vegas odds total has gone over in nine of Edmonton’s last 11 games as well as in nine of the last 11 games against Pacific Division teams.

Striking Early

One constant during the current four-game winning streak for the Golden Knights is the ability of Vegas to play with the early lead.

Vegas has outscored its opponents 7-2 in those four games and the Golden Knights haven’t trailed in any of those contests.

The veteran players have been leading the way. Jack Eichel leads Vegas with four goals and seven points during that stretch, defensemen Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore have combined for 10 assists and Phil Kessel has two goals and three assists. Pavel Dorofeyev, a 22-year-old winger, has also gotten into the act with three goals (two of them being game-winners).

The NHL betting lines total has gone over in five of the Golden Knights’ last seven games.

Vegas snapped a three-game losing streak to Edmonton with a 4-3 win on March 25 as Nicolas Roy scored midway through overtime.

Each of the first three games played between the Pacific Division rivals has finished as 4-3 games with two of them being decided in overtime.

The road team has won six of the last eight meetings.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Picks and Prediction

Both of these teams are finding ways to win the close games as Vegas is 7-1 in one-goal games in March and Edmonton 5-0-1 in games determined by one goal over that stretch. A win would give Vegas its second 100-point season and first since the remarkable debut season back during the 2017-18 campaign.

When the teams played on Saturday, there were just six penalties called and four power plays. That plays into the hands of the Golden Knights considering that Edmonton has had the best power-play percentage (47.4) in the NHL over the last two weeks.

Vegas has covered in just 14 of its 37 home games and this is just the third time this season that Vegas is listed as the underdog on home ice.

The Oilers are 29-23-9 when listed by the sportsbook as the favorite. Vegas is 13-9-1 as the underdog.

The Edmonton Oilers are listed at -120 in our Las Vegas NHL odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Oilers, you have a chance to win $83. Vegas is +100, offering a chance to win $100 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Edmonton Oilers a 54.55% chance to win, with the Vegas Golden Knights at 50.00%.
