Bet Panthers to Win Game 4, Knot Series vs Rangers

Trailing 2-1, Florida Favored at Home in ECF

The New York Rangers made things a little more challenging than they needed to when they squandered a two-goal lead in the third period of Game 3, but they are two wins away from becoming the first Presidents’ Trophy winner to reach the Stanley Cup Final in 11 years.

It isn’t a must-win game for the Florida Panthers. However, a loss at home on Tuesday would mean that the Panthers would need to win three games in a row – two at Madison Square Garden – to return to the Stanley Cup Final. Those who bet online are already putting early money on the Panthers to even the series.

This is the first series between the teams since 1997 when the Rangers won in five games. Florida won its lone home game against the Rangers this season back in December behind a pair of Sam Reinhart goals. Eight of the last nine times that the Rangers played at the Panthers, the game was decided by one goal with the last 10 matchups all going over the total.

The Rangers and Panthers had played 19 consecutive games without a contest finishing under the total before the first two games in this series went under.

The Las Vegas odds have Florida priced at -170 to win Game 3. There are +165 odds for the Panthers to cover at -1½ on the puck line. The Rangers have +150 odds to improve to 6-1 on the road in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Panthers are priced at +375 to win the series in six games and make it back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Finals. There are +450 odds for either Florida or New York to win the series in seven games.

According to the NHL playoff odds, the Rangers went from +320 to +235 in the odds to win the Stanley Cup. The Panthers now have the longest championship odds at +350 after dropping back-to-back games for the first time in this year’s playoffs.

Rangers vs Panthers Odds and Spreads

Wennberg’s Last Unlikely Hero For the Rangers

Quick, a show of hands of all of those who had Barclay Goodrow and Alex Wennberg accounting for four of the first seven goals for the Rangers in the series with the Panthers.

Goodrow had four goals in 80 games during the regular season. After scoring twice in Game 3, the veteran forward has five goals in his last six games. Goodrow’s best six-game stretch in the regular season saw him scoring three times.

He is not even the biggest surprise among the New York goal scorers.

Alex Wennberg scored once in 19 games during the regular season after the Rangers acquired him from the Seattle Kraken.

Wennberg scored seven goals in his first 54 Stanley Cup Playoff games before coming through with the overtime goal to give the Rangers the 2-1 lead in the series.

Now Or Never for Panthers

The good news is that Florida did score twice on the power play in Game 3. However, how many more games can the Panthers expect to get three times as many power plays as the Rangers?

Florida was +14 in shots on goal and won nine more faceoffs than the Rangers but still had to rally from a two-goal deficit at home just to get Game 3 into overtime.

Five goals allowed on 23 shots by veteran goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is not a winning formula and neither is having 10 of the 12 forwards with a plus/minus rating of -1.

Florida scored on two of its first three power plays in the game. However, the Panthers failed to deliver when Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba was called for the game’s final three penalties. He even had the rare double of being penalized twice against different players late in the second period.

The Panthers had won nine of their last 11 games as the home favorite before the Game 3 loss. They have only covered against the puck line in five of their last 12 games as the home favorite.

New York has won five of its last six games as the road underdog and has covered in 11 straight games as the underdog on the road.

Here are some numbers to consider for those who bet online:

  • The last 10 times that the Rangers played on the road against Florida, the game went over the total.
  • Eighteen of the last 21 games between the Rangers and the Panthers finished over the total.
  • Florida is 54-23-3 as a favorite this season.
  • The Rangers are 14-8-2 when listed as the underdog.
  • New York is 28-19 against the puck line on the road.
  • Florida has covered in just 16 of 48 games on home ice.
  • Only 19 of the home games for the Panthers have landed over the total.
  • Four of New York’s last seven games went under the total.

Ready for a Power Surge?

Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Victor Tarasenko are among the prominent forwards yet to score a goal in this series. Will the big guns come through in Game 4?

Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has stopped all 13 shots he has faced when the Panthers are killing penalties in this series. Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers faced five shots when Florida was on the power play in the first two games. That number jumped to nine in Game 3. The Rangers gave up two goals on the power play but also scored while shorthanded.

Look for Bobrovsky to bounce back as Game 4 could land under the 5½-goal total.

Questions of the Day

Which team has a better record against the puck line this season going into Game 4 of the series between the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers?

The Rangers are 50-45 against the puck line while Florida is 46-50 ATS.

What are good player prop options for Game 4 of the Rangers-Panthers series?

Alexis Lafreniere is starting to show why he was picked first overall in the 2020 NHL Draft as he scored twice in the Game 3 win for the Rangers. Take a look at the -103 odds for Lafreniere to have at least one point in Game 4. The more that is on the line, the better Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk usually plays, so that is enough to go with the +160 odds for Tkachuk to score a goal.
