Boston Looks to Close Out Series
Now or Never for Panthers
Even playing without centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who rank second and third on Boston’s career playoff scoring list, the Bruins went to Sunrise, Fla., and picked up a pair of wins to take a 3-1 lead in the first-round series.
Boston has a chance to close things out on Wednesday and there is a chance that Bergeron will be back in the lineup after missing the first four games.
When Florida won Game 2 in Boston, the Panthers outscored the Bruins 4-1 in the third period. Boston returned the favor on Sunday.
The biggest surprise is that Boston won 40 of the 63 faceoffs after Florida won 30 of the 49 draws in Game 3.
The last time Florida played in an elimination game, the Panthers outshot Tampa Bay 49-26, only to lose with Sergei Bobrovsky in net, so keep that in mind when making NHL picks.
When looking at some of the NHL news, forward Anthony Duclair and defenseman Aaron Ekblad are questionable for Florida after they both missed Game 4. Forward Patric Hornqvist is out.
For Boston, Bergeron could make his 2023 playoff debut after missing the first four games. Krejci could be more of a long shot to return to action.
According to the NHL playoff odds, the Bruins have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup title. The odds moved from +250 to +225 after the Game 4 win. Florida’s championship odds went from +4000 to +10000.
Tkachuk to be Welcomed to Beantown
After delivering a cross check to Boston winger Garnet Hathaway after the first period ended and getting into it with goalie Linus Ullmark late in the game, Tkachuk should receive quite the reception from the Boston fans in Game 5.
Tkachuk was fined for his hit on Hathaway, but he was not suspended. The Bruins turned the power play that resulted from Tkachuk’s hit into the second goal of the game.
Tkachuk leads the Panthers with five points in the first four games of the series and joins Sam Bennett and defenseman Brandon Montour as Florida players with two goals in the series.
This won’t be the first time that Tkachuk garners a hostile reaction from a crowd during his NHL career, so if anything, the reaction should help rather than hurt his play.
The Las Vegas odds total has gone under in four of the last six games when the Panthers are listed as the underdog.
Depth on Display
Winning two games on the road without their first and second-line centers is just an indication of the depth of this Boston Bruins team.
There was a time when most of the offense came from Bergeron, Krejci, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand. However, after his four-point game in Game 4, Taylor Hall leads the Bruins with four goals and seven points in the series.

Tyler Bertuzzi, acquired from the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline, has contributed two goals and four assists. He has points in all four games in the series as he is enjoying playing in the postseason for the first time in seven NHL seasons.
Five of Boston’s last seven games went over the NHL betting lines total.

The road team has won the last three games in the series after the home team won all four games during the regular season and the series opener. Only two games between the teams this season have finished under the total.
The Bruins are 9-4 against the Panthers over the last 12 games with just two of those games being decided by one goal.
Bergeron led Boston with six points (three goals, three assists) against Florida during the regular season. In the playoffs, Hall, Bertuzzi, Jake DeBrusk, Marchand and Pastrnak all have at least two goals.
Florida’s Brandon Montour has two goals and two assists in the series after finishing with a goal and two assists in the three games he played against Boston during the regular season.

The key for Boston has been to play from whistle to whistle and not get caught up in the scrums after the whistle. Their discipline will be tested in Game 5 after what transpired in Game 4.
Boston defenseman Charlie McAvoy leads the playoffs with 25 hits and he has done that while taking just two minor penalties. That is what the Bruins will be looking for as they try to close out the series.
