Capitals Hope to Push Series Lead Even Further
Just a few days after the Florida Panthers demolished the Washington Capitals in Game 2, the Capitals struck back with a crushing win of their own.
Everything seemed to be going their way during what was a 6-1 blowout win to take a 2-1 series lead. With Game 4 being played in Washington, it’s a possibility that Florida falls behind 3-1 in this series despite being the top-ranked team in the league.
Game 4 is essentially a must-win for them at this stage but will they be able to pull it off? Let’s take a closer look at the NHL odds and determine what’s the best way to go with your NHL picks.
Mistakes Are Killing the Panthers
You could tell which team has more playoff experience because the Panthers have had a tough time not beating themselves. In Game 3, they had a number of bad penalties that resulted in power-play goals for the Capitals.
They also saw a few missed defensive assignments that led to two more goals. The team’s coaching staff believes that frustration is starting to creep up in the locker room, yet nobody knows why.
If Florida wants to push past the Capitals and advance further into the playoffs, they have to start shaking their mistakes off and playing the same way they did in the regular season.
Otherwise, they will be knocked out in the first round again. Maybe there is something to that Presidents’ Trophy curse.
Capitals Had Excellent Goaltending
Vitek Vanecek missed time at the end of Game 2 and allowed Ilya Samsonov to take over for the rest of the game, which led to the coaching staff making a change for Game 3.
Samsonov stopped all 17 shots he saw in Game 2 and played great in Game 3. He did allow a quick goal in the first three minutes of the game but rallied to stop all 29 other shots that followed.
With Samsonov and Vanecek manning the net, Washington has now upped their penalty kill to nine of nine against the Panthers. It’s becoming increasingly clear why they are starting to take control of this series.

Panthers vs Capitals Prediction
It hasn’t been looking good for the Panthers throughout most of this series, with Game 2 being a clear exception, however, they are still one of the best teams in the league and have been all year long.
While frustration boiling over isn’t ever helpful, they should be as prepared as ever with their season on the line for at least the next two games. Falling down 3-1 in a playoff series is bad news all over the place, so Florida has to win this game.
That being said, they are currently favored in the sportsbook and should be able to pull out a close one. If you bet online, take the Panthers to rebound and even up this series.
