Florida Looks to Avoid Coup de Grace
They’ve been here before. The Florida Panthers are facing elimination down 3-1 as they head to enemy territory for Game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights. Against Boston, we all know what happened: Florida edged the Bruins in overtime thanks to the heroics of its star players.
Now, the NHL lines expect Florida to lose just as they favored Boston to beat the Panthers. Can Vegas close the show or does Florida have one last run in it?

Panthers Almost Had the Knights
So close yet so far. The Florida Panthers nearly came back from a 3-0 deficit to even the series in Game 4. Instead, they fell short and are now one loss away from seeing their Cinderella run end. While Vegas outplayed Florida early, the Panthers had more urgency and took control of the game in the final half.
Aleksander Barkov had a big game with two points and six shots on goal. But when neither Matthew Tkachuk (zero points, four shots) nor Carter Verhaeghe (zero points, -2) are contributing, it’s harder for Florida to match Vegas. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had a rough start but held his ground after the third goal.
For Florida to win Game 5, nothing can go wrong. From Tkachuk to Bobrovsky, all Panthers must deliver. The online sports betting odds have Florida as its biggest underdog since Game 5 versus Toronto (which it won). The Panthers will be more desperate here. But to deliver as an NHL pick, it needs to match its effort with efficiency.
Hill Steals Bobrovsky’s Thunder
While Bobrovsky outdid Adin Hill in Game 3, the latter rebounded and got the better of his senior for Game 4. Other than Game 3, Hill has been Vegas’ difference-maker. Had he not come into the playoffs a bit later (midway into the Edmonton Oilers series), he’d have better NHL odds at winning the Conn Smythe Trophy (currently at +1000).

Jonathan Marchessault is now the favorite at -550 on the sportsbook. The former Panther continued his “revenge tour” versus his old team as he assisted on William Karlsson’s game-winning goal. The 32-year-old has seven points this series. He’s on a nine-game point streak and has 22 points in his last 14 games overall.
Even if Hill or Marchessault are less than excellent for Game 5, Vegas still has Jack Eichel, Mark Stone and a stout defense that has limited Florida to a 7.8 shooting percent on 5-on-5. Vegas is well on its way to making NHL news on Tuesday.

Panthers vs Golden Knights Head-to-Head
Vegas is 3-2 in series-clinching games this postseason. Florida is 3-0 in elimination games with all three wins coming against Boston. But Florida is 0-for-7 in Vegas. The total has gone over in five of Vegas’ last six home games.

Panthers vs Golden Knights Picks and Prediction
One thing is for sure here: Florida will come at Vegas like a hellcat. Vegas may get outshot and even out-chanced here. The key for the Golden Knights is to play a matador to the Panthers’ bulls. Hill will be tough to beat as usual, though Florida will test him often. Win or lose, Florida is not going home without a fight. It’s best to take the Panthers on the puckline.
Florida is listed at +150 in our Vegas NHL lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Panthers, you can win $150. Vegas is -170, offering a chance to win $59 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Florida a 40.00% chance to win, with the Golden Knights at 62.96%
