The Toronto Maple Leafs may be a good value as a home underdog in the NHL odds action when they host the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Monday night for Game 1 of the second-round series.

The Maple Leafs struggled a bit to put away the Ottawa Senators in six games to advance to the conference semifinals and are +750 in the NHL future odds to win their first Cup since 1967. Perhaps this is the year, with their improvements on defense.

The Panthers mended their injuries, falling to third in the Atlantic Division at the end of the regular season, but were a different team while beating the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games. Florida’s balance benefits it, but makes it tough on your strategy for NHL parlay bets.

Panthers vs Maple Leafs Free NHL Parlay Picks

  • Leg 1: Maple Leafs ML (+105)

The Panthers may have found their championship mojo in the first round against the Lightning with balanced offense and a defense that allowed seven goals in the four wins. Florida will have to do it again versus Toronto’s vaunted offense, led by Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares. The Panthers may ultimately grind out the series, but the Leafs are our free NHL pick in Game 1 to give their fans hope.

  • Leg 2: Panthers vs Maple Leafs Over 5.5 Goals (Ev)

Both teams can defend. Florida was seventh in the league in goals against during the regular season and Toronto eighth. The Panthers did produce at least four goals in three of the games in their first series, led by Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk (three each). The Maple Leafs had at least three in five of six against Ottawa during the first round. Nylander, Tavares and Matthew Knies each had three goals in the series. We just think there will be more offense before this NHL matchup settles in.

  • Leg 3: Mitch Marner Anytime Goal (+250)

Mitch Marner was a set-up man in the first-round series against Ottawa with one goal and seven assists. However, he had two goals against Florida in the regular season and boasts seven in 15 career games versus the Cats. Marner, who turns 28 on Monday, should get opportunities with his quickness and escapability against the overcommitting Panthers. With better odds than Matthews, Tavares and Nylander, we like Marner to be in our NHL parlay picks. Marner should also be pumped up after becoming a father Sunday.

  • Leg 4: Sam Bennett Anytime Goal (+250)

We don’t think this will be a 1-0, 2-1 NHL game, so the Panthers should get on the board against former Florida backup goalie Anthony Stolarz and the Maple Leafs. Sam Bennett led the Panthers with 17 shots on net in the first round and scored three goals against Toronto in the regular season. Bennett appeared healthier after some rest at the end of the regular season and showed it with three goals in the first round. Use him in your parlay at the sportsbook.
