Pittsburgh Seeks Playoff Clincher

Much at Stake for Penguins

In their second meeting of three, the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the New York Islanders in this division battle with a playoff-clinching scenario on the line.

New York has 75 points and is fifth in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins currently sit in the third spot in the division with 94 points. With a win, the Penguins can lock in their spot for the playoffs.

Penguins Need Struggles to End

The Pittsburgh Penguins are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games. Sunday’s win over Nashville ended their four-game losing streak, and now is the time for them to build momentum with a chance to also clinch their playoff spot.

With just 13 goals in their last five games, the Penguins will need to get their offense going again with the help of star Jake Guentzel, who has one goal and four assists in his last five games.

Goaltending has been a struggle lately, with 20 goals against in their last five games. The goalie tandem of Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith will look to get back on the right track.

Evgeni Malkin’s four-game suspension certainly won’t help the Penguins as they are attempting to end their offensive struggles. They will need Guentzel and Crosby to step up while they also need their goaltending to get out of their current cold streak.

Islanders’ Playoff Hopes Flickering

The New York Islanders are in an interesting spot as they are 15 points behind a playoff spot but also not yet eliminated from the postseason. While their chances lean on the unlikely side of things, they still have a chance with just 11 games left.

In their last five games, the Islanders have scored 2.4 goals per game, which is under their season average of 2.73. On the back end, they have allowed 2.6 goals in that five-game span, with their season average of 2.68 goals against ranking fourth in the league.

Although they have struggled on offense as a team, there are some bright stars on the Islanders like Brock Nelson, who leads the team with 52 points and 33 goals. With just one goal and two assists in his last five games, look for Nelson to help his team find the back of the net.

With Ilya Sorokin back in the net, the Islanders look to forget a 6-1 loss to St. Louis and get back to shutting down their opponents in the defensive zone.

Penguins vs Islanders Head-to-Head

These two teams have met just once this season, which ended in a 1-0 win for the Penguins in New York back in November.

This is the second meeting of three on the season between the Islanders and Penguins, with their final meeting taking place just two days from now.

Penguins vs Islanders Prediction

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders are both -110 on the moneyline.

Both teams have had their struggles on offense lately, so this game will come down to goaltending. The Islanders have a slight advantage in net as they have allowed 2.60 GAA in their last five against the Penguins’ 4.00 in that same span.

With Malkin sitting out of this one, the Islanders will look to take advantage of the struggling and shorthanded Penguins. When betting online, make your way to BetUS Sportsbook and take the Islanders -110.
