Penguins 13-2-2 in Last 17
Entering the UBS Arena, the Pittsburgh Penguins have not lost to a team other than Toronto and Carolina since Nov. 12. Pittsburgh is 13-3-2 and +17 in their last 17 games thanks mainly to a ridiculously good penalty kill: only three goals allowed in 52 attempts. They are favored on the NHL betting lines, though the Islanders have had a thing for beating Pittsburgh in recent meetings.
The Islanders have won four of the last six meetings, playoffs including, entering their first matchup of the season.
Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports, and NHL lines for Penguins vs Islanders. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.
Penguins May Still Have the NHL’s Best Player
Everyone raves about Connor McDavid and Jason Robertson now. But Sidney Crosby is quietly still dominating for Pittsburgh. The 35-year-old has 27 points in his last 18 games and is on a 106-point pace, which would be his most prolific season since 2013-14.
The Pens’ shooting percentage is also at its peak (13.3 percent) when Crosby is on the ice. He doesn’t get all the credit as Pittsburgh has been playing solid two-way hockey most of the time. The likes of center Ryan Poehling and their defensive corps outside of Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin have been positives for Tristan Jarry.
Tristan Jarry extended his career-long point streak to 14-consecutive games with tonight’s overtime loss (11-0-3).

The 27-year-old Jarry is having another solid season. He owns a 15-3-4 record with the team and his 11.1 goals saved above average (GSAA) is the fifth-best in the league. Even if Crosby and the Pens are an “old” team, they remain a solid choice for betting online.
Islanders Struggling To Stay Consistent
If the Pens have been pretty good since mid-November, the Islanders have been average at best. The Isles have not won consecutive games since Nov. 26. Since then, they are just 4-6-2, though many games came on the road. While the team lost to Nashville at home, New York is still 10-6 at Elmont.
Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov are big reasons why the Islanders have been successful. The Russians share a whopping 92.4 save percent at home. And through the season, they’ve combined for 19.6 GSAA. That’s the best in the NHL.
The Islanders have just run into even hotter goaltending when at home. Their losses to Nashville and St. Louis came with the team putting up 40+ shots on goal. Accuracy has been an issue for the Isles as their 9.3 shooting percent ranks them as the ninth-worst in that department at home.

Penguins vs Islanders Picks & Prediction
Despite the trend, we’re going for the total to go under here. We don’t think either team will score more than three goals, given the Vezina Trophy-caliber goaltenders on both rosters. These teams are also defense-oriented with two of the best penalty kills. The total at six is a gift from the sportsbook.
