Rangers Play Host to Penguins in First of Two Games
The New York Rangers welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins for two straight games beginning this Thursday. The NHL lines expect the Rangers to win. Pittsburgh has gone 2-0-1 in its last three games versus the Rangers but this is the first time it takes on its division rival with its reinforcements. Just like when the Rangers face the Capitals, scoring has been rampant when these teams meet.
Will Penguins Outscore Rangers?
Seven of the Penguins’ last eight games in Rangers’ territory have gone over the total. They lost 4-3, 5-3, and 5-2 in their last three visits. Their last win was a 4-3 victory in triple overtime. Of course, all of these were playoff games and it may be a tad different in the regular season.
But the results all have a common theme here: Pittsburgh can’t contain the Rangers’ scoring and it’s ill-equipped to “fight fire with fire”. This may be more true now that the Rangers bolstered its forward corps by adding two powerful goal scorers in Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko.
Instead, Pittsburgh should find a way to neutralize New York’s offense. It held the Rangers to two goals in each of their last two wins (at home in Pittsburgh). Tristan Jarry, who has had a miserable time since returning from injury, put up a 93 save percentage in two starts versus the Rangers this season. Keep an eye on the NHL news to see if he starts.

Rangers Look To Stay Hot
A 5-3 win over Washington is what the Rangers needed. Kane had one of his best games as a Ranger, offensively, with two points with one coming from the power play. New York jumped to a 4-1 lead over Washington and held steady to come away with the win. The team has yet to look dominant against a playoff-caliber team but it’s getting there.
It gets a chance to prove that by beating Pittsburgh, a team it has to play well against for all 60 minutes to make a statement and maybe even cover the puckline on the NHL odds. New York is averaging nearly 3.2 goals in every home game. But it gives up three in return. Igor Shesterkin has been more vulnerable at home with a middling 90.6 save percentage.
Fortunately for the Rangers, Pittsburgh has goaltending issues of their own and are not as deep when it comes to scoring. If the team can at least cancel out Sidney Crosby’s line, it will have a good shot to deliver as an NHL picks.
