Predators vs Maple Leafs Picks and Prediction
As per the current NHL betting market, the hosts are predictably the favorites at -200. But is a stake two times greater than the potential winnings worth betting on the Maple Leafs?
By the stats, Toronto inevitably strikes a more convincing pose than the Predators in several key categories. For instance, the Maple Leafs are seventh in scoring (3.44), third in goals allowed (2.61), 16th in shots (31.7), and fifth in shots allowed (28.5).
This is compared to the Predators, who are 26th in scoring (2.82), 13th in goals allowed (2.92) 19th in shots (30.7), and 29th in shots allowed (34.2).
Auston Matthews is having a solid season with 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points while teammate Mitchell Marner leads the Maple Leafs with 34 assists and 15 goals for 49 points. William Nylander leads the team in scoring with 22 goals.
There is no player on the Predators side that has distinguished himself with 20-plus goals as yet. Filip Forsberg leads the team with 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points. Mikael Granlund (22 assists) and Roman Josi (21 assists) are among the team’s top performers with 26 and 31 points, respectively.
That said, games aren’t played on paper. The Predators might not wow fans with their speed and offensive prowess, but they’re a solid team with a pretty good defense. Importantly, they are in the midst of good form right now. All that makes them a bet worth considering despite their underdog betting online odds.
In fact, betting the Predators on the handicap, where they are tipped at +1½ (-140), might be the better bet all around in what should be a close game.
If the NHL betting markets were any indication, this game is expected to go the way of the hosts with a 66.7% implied probability as we look at the latest NHL odds. The Maple Leafs are the -200 favorites (bet $200 to win $100), while the Predators are the firm road pups at +170 (bet $100 to win $170) with an implied probability of 37% to deliver the upset.
