Sparks Will Fly as New York Bids for Season Sweep

In the fourth and final meeting between state rivals, the New York Rangers are favored on the NHL lines to sweep the Buffalo Sabres for the season series. The Rangers are not just 3-0 versus the Sabres this season but are on a 10-game point streak (9-0-1) against them. However, nine of their last 12 games were all decided by just one goal.

Rangers Win One for Kane

It took three games, but the New York Rangers finally won one with Patrick Kane in the lineup. The former Hart Trophy winner had a goal and an assist as New York edged Montreal. The Rangers moved up the NHL futures odds when they acquired the three-time Stanley Cup champion.

With Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko, the Rangers have the league’s most intimidating group of forwards on paper. New York Rangers can now boast that it has four 40+ goal scorers plus a perennial point-per-game star in Artemi Panarin. Don’t discount Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox on the blue line and Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin between the pipes.

Yes, the Rangers are stacked. But that also means sky high expectations and the team is 0-3 on the puckline since acquiring Kane. The Rangers are also just 26-21 (26-17-4) as a favorite and down two units on the total moneyline this season. But if this team can put it together, it will be worth betting online against any team.

It Can’t Get Worse for Buffalo, Right?

Buffalo made historic NHL news and for all the wrong reasons. The team allowed 10 goals against Dallas at home. Eric Comrie was in net for all 10 and became the first goalie in franchise history to let in that many as a host. The NHL odds of Buffalo letting in this many again are nonexistent now as they look to rebound against New York.

The Sabres still scored four goals in that rout. It marked a rare result where the team lost despite scoring that many. Buffalo is 27-5 (27-4-1) when it scores at least four goals, and most of its losses came against the NHL’s best – Colorado and Tampa Bay among them.

Comrie, much to everyone’s relief, should not return in goal for Buffalo Sabres. Instead, it should be Craig Anderson. The 41-year-old has been Buffalo’s best goaltender despite a 9-9-2 record. He averages the best save percentage (91.8 percent) and goals saved above average (9.3) of the trio by far. The Sabres’ chances of winning go up with him watching their backs.
