Red Wings Collapsing
The Detroit Red Wings have lost three straight and 10 of their last 12. They are preparing to face off with the St. Louis Blues for a pair of games this week in a home-and-home set that starts on Tuesday.
The Blues have won two straight games in convincing fashion and have some momentum. Are they the better choice for your NHL picks in this spot?
Detroit Laboring on Road
The Red Wings will be trying to pick up the pieces on Tuesday without the comfort of home-ice advantage, something that’s hurt them later. They’ve lost their last six games played on the road, being thoroughly outplayed in a number of them.
When you combine the scores of all of those six matchups, the Red Wings have been outscored a total of 24-8. If you bet online, that’s a clear signal that this is a team to avoid when playing away from home.
A big challenge has been goaltender Ville Husso, who has a .877 save percentage this month. He had been playing well early in the season. However, he’s been bad for NHL betting purposes. The team has lost seven of his last nine starts.
Blues Riding Momentum
If you check the latest NHL news, you’d see that the Blues have won four out of their last six. They’ve turned to rookie Joel Hofer in net and he’s done alright. He stopped 33 shots in just his fourth career start on Sunday, helping the Blues come away with a win over the Winnipeg Jets.
The only reason he wasn’t rewarded with a shutout on a night where the Blues won 3-0 was that he stepped away for a short time in the second period due to a skate repair.
Backup Thomas Greiss made a save. Still, though, Hofer performed about as well as the team could have wanted.
There’s a strong chance that we’ll see Jordan Binnington back in the crease now that his two-game suspension has been lifted. Binnington is 22-24-5 with a 3.39 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage.
Those placing their sports bets might rather see Hofer in the net. Binnington is a known commodity and he simply hasn’t been that reliable.

Keep an eye on who is in the net for the Blues in this one. If it’s Binnington, the option in the sportsbook is over. He has a .868 save percentage on the season. He has allowed at least three goals in eight of his last nine starts.
As for the Red Wings, they’ve had a really tough time stopping opponents too. They’ve allowed at least three goals in 11 of their last 12. Taking that into account, we should see a high-scoring affair here.
