Sabres Face Surprising Flyers
The Buffalo Sabres got their third win out of their last four games by beating the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime on Friday. The win was huge as they chase a postseason appearance late in the season.
If you’ve been checking the NHL news and standings, you can see that they’re five points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins with eight games to go.
Now they get the Philadelphia Flyers up next, who had won five out of their past six before losing to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday in overtime. Will the Flyers stay hot and stem the Sabres playoff run on Saturday?
Buffalo Hoping To Get Their Star Back
The Sabres have been a surprising team but have slipped out of top eight playoff spots. They are an incredibly fun team to watch fly around the ice and with their electric offense.
However, they’ve lost their superstar Tage Thompson as he’s missed the past week with an injury and might be held out if he’s not fully ready to go.
When he’s out there, the difference is notable as he adds a team-high 89 points to the offense. Those who bet online have seen him score 44 goals and racked up 45 assists.
Even though the Sabres have won three of four, on a bigger scale, they’ve been in a slump. If you look at the NHL betting odds over the past month, you’ll see that the Sabres have just five wins in their last 16 games. It’s hard to have confidence in them right now.
Flyers Surging as Season Ends
The Senator’s big 5-4 overtime victory against Philadelphia on Thursday broke a four-game winning streak by the Flyers. Philadelphia has been playing well on both ends of the ice but will need to regain its footing.
Unfortunately, they might have to do so without their starting goalie. Carter Hart has been listed as questionable the last few nights with an injury. He hasn’t been in the net the last two games and might be held out.
If you’re betting this game in the sportsbook, note that the Flyers aren’t playing for much, so they might not rush Hart back.
He has been their best goalie option this season with a 21-21-10 record, a 2.90 GAA, and a .909 save percentage to go with it. Felix Sandstrom has started these past two games, and it hasn’t gone very well.
He’s 1-2-2, with a 3.42 GAA, and a .900 save percentage throughout his starts during March. Granted he’s faced a ridiculous 170 shots in those five games. The Flyers have to find a way to cut those shots down.
