Inconsistent Ways Plague Colorado

Avalanche Mired in Three-Game Slide

The Colorado Avalanche have lost three straight games, allowing 17 goals in the process. The Stanley Cup champs continue to be a puzzling option for NHL picks as they don’t look anything like the team that won it all last season.

They’re a big home favorite on Tuesday when they host the lowly San Jose Sharks. Surely, they’ll pick up a win in this spot, won’t they?

Sharks Horrific Defensively

San Jose has not defended the net very well in the slightest and it’s a major reason why the Sharks have registered just 18 wins. If you check the latest NHL news and stats, you’ll see that they are the third-worst team in the league in goals allowed per game.

They’ve consistently collapsed defensively in recent stretches and have been torn apart by strong offensive squads. They just finished up a seven-game homestand where they lost six of the games.

In the six losses, they allowed at least four goals in five of them – a total of 31. If you’re planning to bet online with this team, you have to consider the overs. They’re simply giving up way too many goals to be trusted in the sportsbook.

What’s With the Avs?

The Colorado Avalanche found themselves on a six-game winning streak recently that had bettors thinking that the champs were back. Since then, though, this team has dropped three in a row.

The Avalanche allowed seven goals in two of their last three games while losing a 3-2 overtime matchup in the third. They’ve really labored to develop any level of consistency of late, though.

Alexandar Georgiev should get the nod in the net. He’s had a stellar month of February after posting a 6-1-1 record, a 2.45 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.

However, his two starts in March have been a complete turnaround. Those two outings have seen him go 0-1-1 with a 5.16 GAA and a .852 save percentage.

Georgiev will be looking to get back into his prior form and this is a spot where sports betting handicappers can probably expect a solid outing, given the opponent.

Sharks vs Avalanche Picks and Prediction

Neither team has played well lately, though it’s hard to bet on the Sharks to win this game. San Jose has been significantly worse than Colorado throughout most of the season and hasn’t had any answers for its third-worst defensive ranking.

The Avalanche will cost you a pretty penny on the NHL odds, so take them on the puck line instead of the moneyline in this one. They should be able to take complete advantage of the lowly Sharks in this one.

Colorado is listed at -320 in our Vegas NHL lines. So, if you wager $100 on the Avalanche, there’s a chance to win $31. San Jose is +260 with a chance to win $260 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Sharks a 27.78% chance to win, with the Avalanche at 76.19%.
