Home-Ice Advantage Huge for Stars

The Stars will begin the NHL postseason series at home, where they were tough to beat this season with a 26-11-4 record.

Dallas won 17 of its last 21 games of the season to earn the top seed in the Western Conference, and nine of those wins came on home ice.

“We’ve played our best hockey here down the stretch,” Stars coach PeteDeBoer said.

The Stars’ defense at home was especially strong to end the season, holding opponents to 1.4 goals a game in their final five home games, including a shutout. Dallas’ offense remained strong as well, as it scored at least three goals in six of its final eight home games to help it secure first place in the West.

The Stars ended the season averaging 3.71 goals a game at home, and they’ll look to keep up that high-powered offense as they try to get the first round off to a hot start.

Depth Boosts Stars With Record Eight 20-Goal Scorers

The Stars’ offense was also helped by the amount of depth they had on the team. Although the Golden Knights will be aided by the return of captain Mark Stone to the lineup, Dallas has been able to rely on a number of different scorers to get it through the season.

The Stars set a franchise record this season by having an NHL-high eight 20-goal scorers, led by centers Wyatt Johntson and Roope Hintz, who scored 32 and 30 each. Dallas also had nine players score at least 50 points this season, led by forward Jason Robertson (80) and its ability to find scoring from multiple players and multiple lines should help its offense remain a threat in this series.

Expect Dallas to Stay Hot at Home

The Golden Knights will be looking to defend their Stanley Cup title, but after their struggles on the road this season, going 18-17-6, the Stars are the good NHL pick to get the series-opening win at -140 odds.

Dallas had a strong finish to the regular season and it will want to avenge its regular-season losses to Vegas after failing to beat the Knights this season. Expected starter Jake Oettinger also closed out the season well for the Stars, holding teams to two goals or less in 10 of his final 11 games, and he should help keep the Knights out of the net as well.

Back the Stars as the favorite on the moneyline to get a solid win at home and start the series strong.
