Blues Go for Another

Despite being a +135 underdog on the online sportsbook, St. Louis marched into Dallas and took out the Stars. The Blues got a First Star performance from netminder Charlie Lindgren, who has been filling in for Jordan Binnington (COVID protocols).

The Blues were outplayed and outshot by the Stars but Lindgren stood his ground. St. Louis will need another similar performance from him as they look for the home-and-home sweep. This team has been unable to stay healthy for most of the season but it’s found a way to keep winning.

St. Louis is 6-1-3 in its last 10 games and is 5-0-1 at home. Hot goaltending from Lindgren has been key to their recent success, but their excellent special teams play – third in power play (PP) and eighth in penalty kill (PK) – is why they’ve sustained it throughout the year.

Starstruck

Make it four straight losses for Dallas, which once again got stopped by a hot goaltender. Or were they? Dallas has scored just two goals in their last three games after averaging 3.75 in their previous eight.

The Stars’ PP has dried up, going 0-for-7 in their last three games. On 5v5, Dallas is also failing to generate enough scoring chances. The team is controlling the puck and has outshot San Jose and St. Louis, but the chances have not been there.

Dallas has been solid defensively and Braden Holtby, who returns in the net, should help the team stay strong in this area. The Stars committed too many penalties and finally allowed a pair of PP goals after going nine straight without one. If they can return to their dominant PK, they are worth a bet online.

Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Prediction

This comes down to goaltending and special teams and that edge goes to the Blues, especially at their pick’em price. We’re not about to doubt Lindgren right now as he’s been on point for St. Louis.

The Blues have also been a different beast at home, having won seven of their last eight games. Their offense reaches a new level. And on the Stars’ end, we can’t underestimate the impact of losing defenseman Miro Heiskanen (non-COVID illness).

Pick: St. Louis Blues -110

But even though we’ve previewed the top-notch goaltending here, this game can be a high-scoring one. Both St. Louis and Dallas have top-five PP units and the extra “oomph” for the Blues’ offense is why nine of their 15 home games have gone over. Dallas may be struggling mightily on 5v5 scoring, but it can get the monkey off its back tonight.

Pick: Total – Over 5½ (-115)

Parlay: Blues and Over 5½ at +257
