Struggling Sabres Worthy Bet as Home Underdog vs Wings

Tuesday’s matchup between the surging Detroit Red Wings and the scuffling Buffalo Sabres will be very even for NHL bet predictions. The visiting Wings are on the rise and the Sabres should be angry and determined.

That makes this contest a tough one to call. Buffalo recently beat the New York Rangers – one of the top teams in the league – 5-1 but have dropped three in a row since, with a 2-1 setback at home against Nashville on Sunday.

Detroit has won five of its last six games after losing eight of 11 contests (3-5-3) and are not likely to have former Hart Trophy winner Patrick Kane in the lineup until Thursday. Kane practiced with the team for the first time Monday after signing as a free agent last week.

Buffalo won all four meetings last season and each of them was a high-scoring affair. The Sabres scored 24 goals in those games and Detroit had 16. The over could be a good bet again at our sportsbook on Tuesday.

Both will compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but they are long shots to reach the Cup final. The Red Wings are +2800 in Las Vegas NHL odds, while Buffalo is +3500 to win the East.

Red Wings Paying Off Loyal Bettors ATS

Detroit appeared to be slipping a bit after a 5-1-0 start to the season, but it was able to outscore opponents 25-11 over the past six contests. Its ATS bettors are 15-8 overall.

The Red Wings finished last season 24th in the league in scoring, but are currently third with 3.74 goals per game. That could improve when Kane joins the lineup with old Chicago linemate Alex DeBrincat, who tops the team with 13 goals and 23 points.

Kane hasn’t been totally ruled out of playing in his hometown on Tuesday, but it is more likely he plays at home against San Jose on Thursday.

Dylan Larkin (22 points) and Lucas Raymond, who had nine of his 19 points in the last nine contests, also lead the balanced Detroit offense.

Alex Lyon (3-1-0, .958 save percentage) is expected to get the start in net if you are betting online. The Wings allowed 2.96 goals per game (14th in the league).

Buffalo Seeks Consistency on Moneyline Bets

The Sabres would not have expected to be the underdog in NHL odds & predictions for this contest before the season.

But things have not gone smoothly for them through the up-and-down first 25 games. The Sabres seemed to have righted the ship with a 6-3-1 stretch, but have lost eight of 11 since (3-7-1). They gave up at least six goals in three of the last five games.

Last season’s leading scorer Tage Thompson is out with a wrist injury, and rookie goalie Devon Levi was sent to the minors. They could only manage a penalty-shot goal by Victor Olofsson at home Sunday against the Nashville Predators, who gave up 10 in their previous two games.

Forward Casey Mittelstadt leads the team with 21 points while defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is just behind with 20. Ukko Pekka Luukkonen has a .907 SP, but the team is 28th at .889.

Buffalo is just 5-6-0 at home and 14-11 ATS. The under is 14-9-2 in Sabres’ games, according to NHL lines.

Best Bets for Red Wings vs Sabres

Both teams have been very good at times and thrown in some few stinkers. You can go either way on this game. One thought is that Detroit is on a roll and Buffalo is a mess. There is some decent value in a Detroit victory of two or more goals. But we think Buffalo is way better than it is playing and may step up when a win is needed dearly.

Expect a big effort from the Sabres on home ice. It makes sense that the over is a good bet after 40 goals were scored in four matchups last season.

NHL Best Bet: Buffalo ML (+110), over 6½ (-120)

Best Prop Bets for Red Wings vs Sabres

DeBrincat must be excited to have Kane joining the team and had a goal to go along with an assist in the 5-4 overtime win at Montreal on Saturday. The wing is a good bet to score in Buffalo.

Best NHL Prop: DeBrincat 1+ goals (+160)
