One of the best games to bet online in the NHL Sunday night is a matchup between the Vancouver Canucks at the Boston Bruins. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. PM ET and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
The NHL odds have the Boston Bruins as big betting favorites at -240 on the moneyline. The over/under for total goals scored is set at 5.5.
Vancouver Canucks at Boston Bruins
Vancouver comes in 6-13-2, and the Canucks have also lost three straight games. This used to be a proud and successful NHL franchise, but things have gone South of late.
Boston has improved to 10-7 but is still out of a playoff position in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins have gone 3-2 in their last five games, and playing at home will be a big advantage.
Canucks Can’t Stop Opponents
If the Vancouver Canucks are going to turn their season around, then they have to find a way to get some defensive stops. Vancouver is currently giving up 3.3 goals per game, and doesn’t have the offense capable of getting those goals back.
Thatcher Demko continues to see most of the time in net for Vancouver, but he has gone just 6-10-1. Vancouver is killing off just 63.6% of its penalties, and that could create some real problems in this matchup.
Vancouver is also dealing with an injury to J.T. Miller right now, and his status for this game is uncertain. Miller leads the Canucks with seven goals and 19 points on the year, and his absence would leave a major hole on offense.
Marchand the Main Man For Boston
Brad Marchand has eight goals and 14 assists to lead the Bruins, and he has set the tone for the entire season. Not only has Marchand been the best offensive player for Boston, but he continues to get in the heads of other opponents.
The rest of the Bruins players are going to have to start stepping up at some point as Boston is scoring just 3.06 goals per game. Boston has been a much better offensive team in recent seasons, and this matchup could be a chance for them to find some offense.
Tuukka Rask is no longer manning the blue paint for Boston, and that has created some issues as well. Jeremy Swayman has gone 6-4 in his starts for the Bruins, but Boston hasn’t been as dominant on the defensive end as in years past.
Bruins Blow Past Canucks
Even though both teams have not gotten off to great starts this season, there is still a pretty clear gap between Vancouver and Boston. The Canucks are one of the worst teams in the NHL, and playing in Boston is always tough on any opponent.
Boston has started to turn things around a bit after a very slow start, and this is another opportunity to add to the win total. This game has the potential to get out of hand in a hurry as Boston is going to take complete control.
