Take Capitals, Devils, Isles To Cash Your NHL Parlay

The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins are teams standing at a crossroads as the trade deadline looms on Friday, and it might be a good matchup to take a stand on in your NHL picks and parlays for Thursday night.

Both clubs have three games in hand on Philadelphia for the third spot in the Metropolitan Division and the second wild-card team Tampa Bay. Washington is seven points behind and Pittsburgh is eight. They are also open for business in the trade market.

The Capitals are 5-2-1 in their last eight and 3-1-1 in the past five on road while the Penguins 1-3-0 over the last four and 3-0-1 at home in the past four. Take your pick. Look at the value and what team is more sure about its direction. We think it’s Washington.

There are 11 other options on the night and Boston (Toronto), along with Los Angeles (Ottawa), host games against teams that played the night before.

The favorite in the odds to win the Stanley Cup is in action on Thursday as Edmonton (+800) visits Columbus in what could be a high-scoring game.

1. Time For New Jersey To Shine: Devils -1½

We thought the New Jersey Devils would step up with a big win after the coaching change on Tuesday, but fell 5-3 against the red-hot Florida Panthers.

You can expect the Devils to let out all their frustrations against the St. Louis Blues two days later. New Jersey has lost three in a row and needs a boost with a tough stretch coming up, including Carolina, the New York Rangers, and Dallas.

Jack Hughes has three goals and five assists in the last five outings for the Devils, who are eight points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a game in hand. St. Louis is six points out of a playoff spot in the West after splitting its first two of a five-game trip.

Expect New Jersey to show up for a national television audience (ESPN).

2. Hunch Bet On Caps: Washington ML +145

There may be a little more turmoil in the Pittsburgh locker room as it prepares for a visit from Alex Ovechkin and Washington.

The Penguins have never been able to truly put it together this season, no matter how well captain Sidney Crosby has carried them. That has put them in a position where they could be a seller at the deadline.

The Capitals have already dealt pending free-agent forward Anthony Mantha to Vegas and others could be moved, giving some anxious young players a shot or more playing time.

If Washington can play solid defense, we think it can give you value at the sportsbook with a win at rival Pittsburgh.

Plenty of Goals In Columbus: Oilers-Blue Jackets Over 6½

The Edmonton Oilers have learned to play better defense and showed that with the 2-1 win at Boston on Tuesday.

But make no mistake, the Oilers like scoring goals. They should be even more juiced up after acquiring forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick in a trade from Anaheim on Wednesday. The Columbus Blue Jackets are also 31st in the league in goals-against.

Edmonton has won five in a row and is fourth in the league in scoring offense. Columbus registered 14 goals in its past three contests, winning two. The over should be among your hockey picks for tonight.

Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman should help create some goals for the Oilers and Johnny Gaudreau will be fired up to play against Edmonton, which he met many times while with Calgary.

3. Islanders Stay On Roll: New York -1½

Every time you think the New York Islanders are out of the playoff picture, they seem to find a way back.

The Islanders have won four in a row and start a three-game California trip at the San Jose Sharks, who are tied with Chicago for the fewest points in the league (37).

Three of New York’s wins during their streak came against teams holding down playoff positions, including road victories at Dallas and Detroit. Meanwhile, San Jose has lost eight in a row (0-6-2) after blowing a late three-goal lead in a 7-6 overtime loss to Dallas on Tuesday.

Take New York to keep it rolling if you bet online.
