Oettinger, Stars Pretty Comfortable On the Road
There was very little to separate the results on the road and at home for Dallas as the Stars won the Central Division title and earned the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
It has been a different story in the postseason.
In eight road games, the Stars have outscored its opponents 25-17 while they have a -3 goal differential on home ice.
Dallas won its only other elimination game in this year’s playoffs. Radek Faksa scored after missing the previous four games and Jake Oettinger made eight of his 22 saves after the Stars took the lead early in the third period in a 2-1 win in Game 7 against reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas.
Miro Heiskanen, Wyatt Johnston, Jason Robertson, and Tyler Seguin are tied for the team lead with eight points on the road in this year’s playoffs while Oettinger is 6-2 with a 1.71 goals-against average.
Six of the last nine games for the Stars went under the total.
Oilers Turn On the Power
Edmonton failed to score on the power play in each of the first four games of the series.
That all changed in Game 5 as the Oilers made the Stars pay with a pair of goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins after the first two Dallas penalties to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.
Leon Draisaitl called Ryan Nugent-Hopkins the “coach’s favorite player.” 😂

While neither team could hold onto early two-goal leads in the previous two games, this time Edmonton added to the lead with Phillip Broberg scoring his first career playoff goal to push the lead to 3-0 in the second period.
Wyatt Johnston’s 10th goal of the playoffs coming with less than six minutes to play was too little, too late for the Stars.
Edmonton outshot Dallas 6-2 with the man advantage with the 3-1 win pushing the Stars to the brink of elimination.
Edmonton has seen six of the previous nine games land under the odds total.
Stars Look to Reverse Troubling Betting Trend
Edmonton has won five of its eight games in this year’s playoffs as a home favorite. The Oilers have scored 24 goals in the five wins and 11 goals in the three losses.
Dallas has won two of its three games in the postseason as the road underdog and that includes a 5-3 win in this series.
Here are some numbers for those who bet online to consider heading into Game 6 of the series between Dallas and Edmonton.
- Edmonton is 54-31-7 as the favorite this season.
- Dallas is 6-7-2 as the underdog.
- The Stars have covered in 27 of 49 road games.
- Edmonton is 26-23 against the puck line on home ice.
- Dallas has seen 28 of its 49 road games go under the total.
- Seven of Edmonton’s last nine games went over the total.
Stars vs Oilers Injury Update
Defenseman Chris Tanev is questionable for the Stars while Dallas is already without defensemen Jani Hakanpaa and Jerad Rosburg.
Veteran winger Corey Perry is questionable for the Oilers after leaving the previous game with a shoulder injury.
Second Period Scoring Flurry Could Continue
Much of the focus has been on the early scoring in this season. However, the second period has been the one with the most action with 11 combined goals being scored. That has been a factor in both teams overcoming multi-goal deficits in this series.
When looking at player prop options, keep in mind that Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl has two goals and an assist as Edmonton closed out Los Angeles and Vancouver earlier in this year’s playoffs.
The teams are a combined 2-for-20 on the power play in the first five games of the series.
