Under Best Bet in Kraken vs Blackhawks Tilt

Seattle hits the road to face the Chicago Blackhawks with the NHL betting lines favoring the visiting Kraken.

Seattle has a better record on the road (4-3-4) than at home while Chicago’s two home wins are the fewest in the NHL.

The last three meetings between the Kraken and Blackhawks featured 32 goals being scored. Defenseman Seth Jones led Chicago with five assists and seven points in those games. Jared McCann had five goals and two assists in those three games for Seattle.

Forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand, who is tied for the team lead with 19 points, Brandon Tanev and goalie Philipp Grubauer are questionable for Seattle while forward Andre Burakovsky is out.

For Chicago, forwards Andreas Athanasiou and Colin Blackwell are out. Forward Taylor Hall is out for the season and defenseman Jarred Tinordi is on injured reserve.

When looking at the NHL futures odds Seattle is priced at +8000 in the odds of winning the Stanley Cup title. Chicago is tied for the longest championship odds of +20000.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

As the newest NHL franchise, much of the Seattle roster consists of players who began their careers elsewhere. One of the top point producers didn’t land in Seattle in the expansion draft.

Winger and former first-round pick Eeli Tolvanen was waived by the Nashville Predators on Dec. 11, 2022, and quickly picked up by Seattle. Since that time, Tolvanen has scored 21 goals. Among Nashville players, only Tommy Novak and Filip Forsberg have scored more goals.

Tolvanen has four goals and seven assists in the last 11 games.

When looking at the NHL odds, keep in mind that five of Seattle’s last six games went over the total, as have each of the last five road games.

Depth Being Tested for Blackhawks

Chicago has used 23 players in the first 10 games played in the month of November. Connor Bedard, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, is one of 11 players to appear in all 10 games. Goals have come from 14 different players.

Those numbers are not a recipe for success as injuries and ineffective play have been resulting in a constantly changing lineup for a Chicago team that has lost 12 of its last 14 games.

After having four goals and two assists in a two-game span, it has been more of a grind for Bedard with one goal and three assists over the last six games. He also has a -6 defensive rating in those games.

The NHL betting lines total has gone over in four of Chicago’s last five games against Pacific Division teams.

Will Dickinson Continue His Hot Streak?

When looking at the player props, keep in mind that Chicago’s Jason Dickinson has scored five goals in his last seven games, with all of those goals coming at even strength. Jared McCann leads Seattle with three goals over the last eight games. McCann is priced at +140 to have at least one goal in this game.

Seattle is 14th and Chicago 26th in 5-on-5 goal scoring in the month of November.

Seattle is just 3-3-2 against the NHL Las Vegas odds as a favorite this season while Chicago has been listed as the underdog in every game this season.

The Kraken has covered in eight of the 11 road games while Chicago is just 3-5 against the spread at home.

Predicted Score: Kraken 4, Blackhawks 2

Go with the Under

Although 12 of Seattle’s games this season have gone over the total, the Kraken scored just once in their last game while Chicago has been held to three goals or less in six of the last seven games.

While neither team is getting elite goaltending right now, this still feels like a game where both teams will struggle to light the lamp.

With a total of 6½ goals, it could be worth taking the under despite both teams having some recent trends of games going over the total.

NHL Pick: Under 6½ (-120)

Are You Ready For Some Early Action?

When looking at the numbers in November, Seattle and Chicago have combined for more goals (28) in the first period than in any other period. The question for Chicago is whether the Blackhawks can keep pucks out of their net as they have allowed 16 goals in the first period over the last 10 games.

Seattle has shown it can win on the road and Chicago’s struggles on home ice are well-documented, so go with the visiting Kraken in this one.

NHL Pick: Seattle Kraken -185
