Bet On Kentucky Derby Odds

The Kentucky Derby is THE horse racing event to watch. As the world’s most popular Grade I stakes race, the Kentucky Derby betting remains one of the biggest events in sports. Kentucky Derby odds are offered from the best online sportsbooks. It is the first leg of the world-renowned Triple Crown of thoroughbred horse racing.

Kentucky Derby Contenders and Race Picks – Full Race Preview

The 147th Kentucky Derby is set to return in its usual time slot: the first Saturday of May from the usual broadcaster: NBC. Churchill Downs will now feature live audiences in attendance as, fingers-crossed, the pandemic continues to slow down. There will still be preventative measures in place, but this is a step towards the Derby being back.

2021 Kentucky Derby – May 1

Start Time: 6:31 pm ET (pending)
TV Broadcast: NBC
Online Stream: NBC Sports
Venue: Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky
Distance: 1¼ miles (10 furlongs)
Track: Dirt
Horses: 3-year-old Thoroughbreds
Purse: $3,000,000

The 2021 Kentucky Derby will return to its standard 20 horses. It was cut down to 18 last year. The race is open to 3-year-olds of both sexes although fillies rarely participate. The Derby Odds is one of the rare sporting events to never get cancelled or postponed. We saw last year that it went on despite a pandemic. It did the same during the Spanish Flu and both World Wars.

The Kentucky Derby usually begins around 6:30 p.m. ET but this year’s race time has yet to be finalized. The race is only around two minutes. Combined with Kentucky Derby betting, it has earned the moniker “the most exciting two minutes in sports”.

Kentucky Derby Betting Guide 2021

The Kentucky Derby 2021 odds are already live and available from the sportsbook. Per usual, there are favorites that are quickly establishing themselves apart from their peers. Essential Quality and Life is Good are the two favorites to watch, in particular. But other contenders like Greatest Honour, Mandaloun, and Concert Tour are fighting to make a case.

Remember that you can bet on the Kentucky Derby odds in many ways using either the racebook or the sportsbook, depending on how involved you want to get. Alternatively, you can also bet on the horse races during the Road to Kentucky Derby, which ultimately help paint a clearer picture of how the “Run for the Roses” shapes up.

2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby

Only 20 horses will be eligible to participate in the Kentucky Derby. These horses will be the top 20 to earn points in a series of races as part of the “Road to the Kentucky Derby.” How each horse performs over these races usually mark which ones will be the favorites with the Kentucky Derby odds.

There are many races as part of the Road to the Kentucky Derby and most of them have odds. Kentucky Derby betting includes these races that come from three areas: the United States, Europe, and Japan although the biggest and most prestigious races are from America and happen during March and April, just before the Derby.

2021 Kentucky Derby Betting Odds: The Contenders*

How to Bet on Kentucky Derby?

The most prominent horse racing event in the world, the Kentucky Derby is known as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” for apt reasons. Find the best Kentucky Derby odds from the BetUS online sportsbook, home to this prestigious Grade I stakes race that takes place every first Sunday of May.

As the first leg of the Triple Crown, the Derby is 10 furlongs (1 ¼ miles, 2 km) long and raced on a dirt track. The household name in horse racing is littered with online sports betting odds. Bet on Kentucky Derby odds remains ever so popular.

Kentucky Derby Odds: What You Need To Know

You can find Kentucky Derby odds and other horse racing odds from the BetUS online sportsbook. Find these odds via the “Racebook” or the “Horse Racing” section of the sportsbook.

You’ll want to access the Racebook to get the full range of Kentucky Derby odds. The sportsbook has Derby odds but is mostly limited to the Futures or Outright bets.

How to Bet on the Kentucky Derby: Racebook Odds

There are many different ways on how to bet on the Kentucky Derby. With the BetUS online racebook, you can find these Kentucky Derby odds easily. When you find the Derby odds, you have one of three options to bet (labeled “Horse” in the “Bet Type” option above the table):

  • Win: bet on a horse to finish first
  • Place: bet on a horse to finish second or first
  • Show: bet on a horse to finish third, second, or first

When you bet on Kentucky Derby odds, your payout is determined by what you select. A “Win” pays more than a “Place” and “Place” pays more than a “Show”. The payout is the same regardless of what place the horse finishes when “Place” or “Show” is concerned.

Alternatively, you can choose to wager with “Win-Place” or “Win-Place-Show” and the your payout is determined by what place the horse finishes in.

When you find the table, you can type in the amount you want to bet on any of the three options. After you input your bet amount, select “Add To Bet Slip” to load your Kentucky Derby odds bets.

You can either “Save” your bets if you want to think about them, “Remove All” to start over, or “CONFIRM” to place your wager/s.

Kentucky Derby Odds: Reading the Odds

The Derby odds are usually displayed as a fraction or the “Money Line”, meaning what the odds and potential payout is for the horse.

These Kentucky Derby odds are displayed with a “/” between two numbers like 6/1 or 15/1. This means you can win $6 or $15 for every $1 dollar you bet if the horse finishes first. The payout is adjusted if you choose “Win”, “Place, or “Show” with “Win”.

You can calculate your potential payout with this formula:

  • Wager x (Numerator/Denominator)]

More Kentucky Derby Betting: Other Methods to Bet

The Win-Place-Show isn’t the only Kentucky Derby odds option. There are “exotic wagers” that are available. These are:

  • Exacta: bet on two horses to finish first and second in the exact order hence the name. For double the wager, you can box your bet to ensure a win even if they switch places.
  • Quinella: this is essentially a box exacta with the difference being the cost. It costs more to place an exacta but the payout is typically bigger.
  • Trifecta: bet on three horses to finish first, second, and third in the exact order like an exacta but with three horses. Like the box exacta, you can also do a box trifecta for additional costs and payouts.
  • Superfecta: bet on four horses to finish from first to fourth in the specific order.
  • Double: place two separate wagers just like a two-leg parlay; both wagers must win.
  • Pick Four: select the winner (first-placed finisher) of four consecutive horse races

To select an exotic wager, select the drop down menu of the table where it says “Bet Type” (the default Win-Place-Show format is labeled “Horse”) then select from the Kentucky Derby odds, the exotic wager of your choice from the dropdown menu.

You can also select the race you want by selecting the “Race #”.

How to Bet on the Kentucky Derby: Sportsbook Futures/Outrights

When you access the Kentucky Derby odds from the sportsbook, you’ll find the Futures or Outrights. This is more straightforward and you simply select which horse you think will finish first and win the entire thing.

You already know the fractional format on how to bet the Kentucky Derby. There are two other formats display from BetUS:

American Odds

This lines teams with a positive (+) or negative (-) number. A positive indicates how much you win on a $100 bet and a minus indicates how much you have to bet to win $100.

If you’re not wagering $100, you can use these formulas to calculate your potential winnings:

  • For plus odds: Stake x (Odds/100)
  • For negative odds: Stake / (Odds/100)

Decimal Odds

Self-explanatory, these Derby odds reflect how much you win for every $1 wagered. Unlike the American odds, the decimal odds show the total payout rather than the profit:

  • Wager x Decimal odd number

You can change the odds format by selecting the dropdown from the “Kentucky Derby Odds” on the upper right corner of the table.

Ready For teh Breeders

I am a horse racing fan year round. From the triple crown races to the breeders cup to the next year’s qualifying races, there is racing to be following and bet on all year long. I don’t understand people that just tune in for the kentucky derby and think they’re going to pick a winner. You have to know the horses not just look at the odds. I love that betus is into that and knows that I want my racing all year long.

Lots of Races

I picked up my horse racing habit during the pandemic and I won’t be giving it up. I love being able to pull up tracks every day and make lots of different bets. I’ve learned all the different bets thanks to BetUS, and the site makes it easy for me to switch between types of bets. It’s easier than most sites I’ve tried to bet at. I tell my friends to check out BetUS and enjoy the fun.

Betting the Ponies

I went to the Kentucky Derby when I was younger and got such a rush from watching the race. You can’t replace that, but you come close with all of the offerings of horse racing bets you have. I come every day to put a little something down just to add a little excitement to my day. I recommend doing the same for anyone that loves horse racing.v

Going to Horse Racing Class

I’ve always been intrigued with horse racing but never knew much of anything about it other than the Triple Crown races and win, place and show. I decided to check out the Betus racebook and found a racing glossary that explained so much to me. Different bets to make. Different race types. I love that this site is trying to educate its customers to make the right bets rather than just trying to take our money.
