The English Premier League (EPL) is the most prestigious and popular soccer league in Europe – and maybe around the world. Soccer is one of the most popular and world-renowned sports, and for good reason. We don’t usually see the impact soccer has in other countries as we tend to be wrapped up in our North American sports like the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
Betting on English Premier League odds has always been popular due to the elite athleticism and top talent showcased in the EPL. Each season, the Premier League fields 20 teams that play from August until May and the team with the best record at the end of the season earns the title.
North American sports tend to have playoff series and tournaments, so this format is definitely different and makes futures betting a little bit challenging. Each team will play 38 games in a season, playing each of the other 19 clubs twice (once as home and once as away).
The other aspect of EPL that is different to North Americans is the relegation and promotion of teams. Each season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the EFL Championship, and the top two teams are promoted to Premier League. Being on one of those lower-ranking teams would definitely be a bit of a roller coaster ride potentially not knowing which league you’ll be playing in the following season.
The 2021-2022 English Premier League starts on August 13, 2021, starting with a match between Arsenal and Brentford. Most English Premier League games will fall on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, which makes for great opportunities to create EPL parlays and some other great betting opportunities.
** Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, and Sheffield United were relegated to the EFL Championship after the 2020-21 season, and Norwich City, Watford, and Brentford were promoted to the Premier League for this upcoming season.
2021 – Manchester City over Manchester United
2020 – Liverpool over Manchester City
2019 – Manchester City over Liverpool
2018 – Manchester City over Manchester United
2017 – Chelsea over Tottenham Hotspur
2016 – Leicester City over Arsenal
2015 – Chelsea over Manchester City
2014 – Manchester City over Liverpool
2013 – Manchester United over Manchester City
2012 – Manchester City over Manchester United
2011 – Manchester United over Chelsea
Manchester United holds the record for most English Premier League titles with 20 and has 17 occasions as runners-up. Right behind them, Liverpool has 19 titles and 14 instances where they were runners-up.
While Premier League is technically only 29 years old, forming in 1992, it has become one of the most popular and prestigious leagues. The league was founded due to clubs wanting to break away from the EFL and blossomed into the juggernaut that it is today.
They signed a lucrative television deal and became the most-watched sport on television. The ‘big five’ clubs, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Arsenal, moved from the EFL First Division to Premier League and were a part of the negotiations in creating the EPL.
22 clubs ended up resigning from the EFL First Division and joined the EPL, which left the EFL with only three divisions instead of four. The relegation and promotion remained the same between the two leagues after the dissolve of the First Division, the only change was that Second Division was now the new First Division.
When it comes to betting on the EPL, you can look at a few things. First, we at BetUS have a huge selection of odds and props for each and every Premier League game. This makes for tons of betting opportunities in a single weekend – not to mention in a 10-month season.
Once you learn how to bet on Premier League (click the How to tab), you can start trying new types and options to see if you have any luck or savvy betting on more unique betting styles.
Familiarize yourself with the teams in the league, and while we know it can be the same teams winning year after year, finding out the strengths of those lower-ranking underdog teams can possibly win you some big money if they secure a win.
We recommend checking out our promotional codes and loyalty programs if you plan to do a lot of Premier League betting, as we could have some special offers available at any time throughout the season.
Betting on one of the most prestigious and popular soccer leagues can earn you some big money, but only if you know how to properly bet on the English Premier League.
The EPL is also a league that relegates and promotes teams, so the same teams don’t necessarily play in the league each season.
Soccer betting can be a little bit different than betting on other sports as there are a few different betting options.
If you know all about moneyline betting, you know that moneyline betting is a 50/50 chance of winning between two teams. Three-way moneylines add in a third option – the tie, or draw – that adds another option and makes the bet a little riskier. Since soccer games can end in a draw, you could make some great money by taking the risk – draws usually have higher underdog odds.
So, you have three options to choose from: Team A to win, Team B to win or the draw.
Manchester City -180
Leeds United +400
In this case, Manchester United is the favored team to win this match, and Leeds United is the underdog. If you’re familiar with reading American odds, you will know that the negative sign signifies the underdog, and the number will show how much you’d need to wager to win $100.
The plus symbol indicates an outcome that’s less likely to happen and signifies underdogs as well. The underdog in this situation and the least likely outcome is that Leeds United wins the match. A $100 wager on Leeds United would win you $400 though. The draw has a slightly more likely outcome with +300 odds, which means you could win $300 on a $100 wager.
Point spreads are commonly called ‘goal-line wagers’ in soccer betting because there aren’t points per se, there are goals. Soccer scores are relatively low for the most part – and even more so when you are looking at the top talent in European soccer. The goalline or point spread will give the underdog team a point or two head start before the game even begins.
If you see a point spread of +1.5/-1.5, using the same teams and situation as above, you will know that Manchester City is -1.5, which means they need to win the game by 2 points or more for a bet on them to cash. If you want to bet on Leeds United at +1.5, they will be given the hypothetical head start and they can either win the game by any amount, or lose by one goal.
Totals betting is another simple betting option for English Premier League that can make you some cash if you pick the right outcome. With totals betting in any sport, you are betting on the total combined score for both teams. So, you add the goals scored by both teams together.
With soccer betting, however, you will see totals in multiples of .25 (2.50, 2.75, 3.0 etc). All this does is add a little more risk, because when there’s only a 3-point total, the over/under would be quite simple.
If you have a total of 3.0 and the final score was 3-2, the over would cash. If the score was 1-1, the under would cash.
The difference between Premier League and other North American sports we know and love is that there are no playoffs or championships, however, there is always a winner at the end of the season. Futures betting on English Premier League allows you to try to predict who wins the title, months in advance.
At the start of the season, we will release English Premier League odds, with each team’s prospective likelihood of winning the title. Each team will have different odds and those odds will fluctuate based on team performance throughout the season.
It’s clear that Manchester City is a heavy favorite to win the 2021 season. Because there is no tournament or series that the teams face off against each other for the title, it does make things a little less exciting toward the end of the season if the clear cut favorite from the start of the season is crushing teams in the league and their record is soaring.
